But let's not make a mountain from this, nor call every politician here corrupt or a thief.

Which political party isn't corrupt in Spain?

Right now we know that PP, PSOE, IU, CIU, PNV (and probably more) are, and their corruption is responsible of the actual situation of the country. Even the church is corrupt in Spain.

Again: You're missunderstanding everything;

1. They did not stole from a small grocery but from 2 supermarkets, Mercadona and Carrefour, so no small peasant was affected.

2. This is not a sustained campaing, but a single action with the objective to raise concern about the problem of many families that don't have anything because the consecuences of speculation, corruption, crises and bad political and economical management.

So... STOP saying things like "prices will increase" or "farmers poverty will deepen", it is not true! After this action many people is concerned that big sectors of the population of Spain can't satisfy their basic needs and supports the motto People and rights over profits! This will force goverments to take measures in they wan't to prevent new assaults of impoverished people in the future.

And, by the way: this is not the only "ilegal" action by civil society going on in Spain nowadays: many people who lost his job and house because the crisis is now occupying empty (but new) houses owned by banks and public authorities that are kept empty for speculative pourposes.

So, these are ilegal actions, but when basic rights like having a house or food are in danger, these actions turn completely legit.

Exactly. It's more a one-off protest than anything else

and welcome to the Chartz!

Congrats.

What happens to the poor farmers that raised the crops? How will they get paid to continue to farm since the crops were stolen at the stores? How will the stores recoup the stolen cash?

That kind of mentality is exactly why they have a near-25% unemployment rate. For being the smartest continent, they sure do have a lot of economically impaired leaders.

I don't think it's meant to be a long-term thing. It's not the act itself so much as what it symbolizes: screw the rules, care about people. The bigger thing is his efforts to convince local governments to ignore debt repayments and not lay people off, or as he said "to think about those who are suffering more than about the banks."

Not to say that theft is ever justified, but the protest is more important.

So then they want them to steal money from their creditors by refusing payment on debts, eh? Its still theft. Imagine putting money in your bank, and not being able to withdraw it because someone refused to repay their loan which was given to them by your bank.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Political parties can't be corrupted. Polititians/members of those parties can. Let's not mix things.

Not every politician is corrupt.

And the church... well, what can be said of an organisation that has a commandment that says "do not kill", but has an army?

But political parties have stolen people's money in cajas de ahorros for their own funding (and housing-related corruption, and other things). This is why some banks don't have money now. And all of us are going to pay that money (taxes, lower salaries, etc), instead of them.

And those politicians that are corrupt are usually protected by their party peers, which sounds really bad.

The poor farmers that raise the crops already get paid, and very badly by the exploiter distributor.

I'm pretty sure that the stores had an insurance policy.

Please don't compare the european politicians with the spanish ones, our politicians are 100% more impaired and 200% more corrupt than the europeans.

Actually, I do believe it's common practive that Farmers don't usually get paid until the end of a season.

It's one of the big advantages of a small farmer running a CSA.

Throw in some sales based clauses and...

Also not sure that insurance would cover "The leader of your town taking your shit via organizing a flash mob."  Considering I don't think insurance covers losses due to government.

I think that what the stores are selling have been harvested and payed already, but we'll see.

I've sent a mail to a friend whose father have some lands about it, I'll see what he says.

Don't worry for the stores, they won't lose money or increase prizes (if they increase prizes they won't sell like JEMC said). They'll fire somebody for (almost) free (there are many ways they can do it now), hire some people from temporary employment agencies, make them work for 0.5*money and voila.

@Kynes so that's the story behind this guy. Not surprised after all.

Cool let me know.

I remember reading about how farmers are paid a few months back in the greek crisis.  Farmers started cutting out th middlemen there after there crash which allowed them to get money faster and make the same profits.

Apparently, at least in greece, you don't get paid until the end of the season.

I can't talk of farming products, as I work in electronics, but in Spain it's common to be paid by the big retailers 180 days after the invoice, and if your product isn't bought in the first 60 days, they can return it to you without cost.

Thats how textbooks in the US work.

Though we had a full school semester to return them with.

Great job.  Would be slammed with work for about 4-5 weeks a semester, and the rest of the time i'd spend most of my day reading spare english novels/economics books/history books.

Of course that was only because our book orderer was kinda incompetant.

Part of it was that many Greeks were voluntarily cutting the Euro (or money in general) out of the equation and just bartering their food for other stuff.

We're going off-topic here, but as far as I know, only two cajas that later where almost forced to join into 1 suffered from that.

The rest, and I'm talking about the ones here in Cataluña had more freedom and were less politicized. Their problems were mainly brick and mortar ones.
