The following information comes from online employment portal Glassdoor...

10. GameStop
> Rating: 2.7
> Number of reviews: 416
> CEO approval rating: 32% for J. Paul Raines
> One-year price change: down 21%
> Employees: 17,000

GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) has 6,683 company-operated stores in 15 countries around the world. The company primarily sells used video game hardware and software. But its business model has come under pressure as more and more of these products are delivered over broadband or fast wireless. Like Blockbuster before it, GameStop has a huge number of bricks-and-mortar locations to maintain in an industry that has moved substantially to digital platforms. And GameStop’s own digital game distribution platform is small compared to the balance of its operations.

Employees appear to regularly complain that the company privileges sales above customer service. According to one review, “Priority is placed on sales instead of games and customers, pushing people to pre-order games can place them in a situation where they spend good money on a bad game with no possibility of a refund, business’ models place customers at a disadvantage.” It may also be the reason why the video game retailer made the Consumer Report’s annual “naughty” list for bad customer service in 2011. Likely adding to poor customer service, reviews point to high turnover.

In my opinion most gamestop employees I know dislike their job.  But that's as a result of the crummy $8 an hour they are making there.  Have any of you guys worked at game stop and can confirm this article?

I agree with the complaints. I have a GameStop a mere 4 blocks from my apt, not even a 10 minute walk, and I refuse to go there, even if there's a good sale going on, because I refuse to give GS my business. I've witnessed countless times employees convincing unknowing parents to buy extra stuff that they don't need like strategy guides and accessories, extended warranties, etc.

And I hate being harassed at the register to preorder this or buy that when all I want is the one friggin game I came into the store for, and then they hand you a box that's already been opened with stickers all over it and charge you full price for a "new" game. I remember going there because they were the only ones who had Zack and Wiki for Wii in stock when it came out, I asked for it, guy rang me up and everything, then hands me the display box and pulls the disc out of a drawer in some plastic slip. I was like hell no, and I told him to give me a refund.

I almost wouldn't have a problem with Sony or M$ if they did in fact make their next consoles unable to play used games if it meant the death of GameStop. The ends would certainly justify the means in that case.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Most of the Gamestop people I meet are happy, but 8$ sux. Mcdonalds should be on the list.

8 dollars seems fine to me considering the job type. Though i seems to need to be on the list.

Most positions at McDonalds pay over $8 dollars an hour plus I'm pretty sure that McDonalds has better benifits.  McDonalds is actually one of the better fast food places to work for it might not be Starbucks but its way better then Gamestop.

Must be different for my town then. My grandma has been working there for over 10 years and is a manager barely makes 9$ an hour. Which is terrible. Also Pizza hut my friend was a manager and made 8.25.

I worked at Funcoland years ago. They were bought out by Gamestop and I can tell you that there was a much higher priority on selling systems, system cleaning kits, and new games than telling the customer the truth. I got a talking to by my manager at the time for telling someone that War Gods for the N64 wasn't a good game, which prevented him from purchasing it. I didn't work there for much longer.

Gamestop has its positives and negatives

The lower level employees arent paid all too high and dont get many hours

But if you stick it out and do well it can be an extremly nice career.

yeah only idiots work their =p. The internet is full with 'the people who work at my local gamestop are idiots' threads =p.

Watch out! Grammar police alert!!!!

on topic: I am assuming what others have already said..  the lack of hours and wage probably has most to do with it.  If you can't work at least 35-40 hours each week then it makes it pretty damn hard to survive unless you are in high school or college.
