Wow, someone really went to town on the 3D Dot Game Heroes page!

http://gamewise.co/games/401/3D-Dot-Game-Heroes

I see what you did there.

Yeah, he copied and pasted word-for-word from the one FAQ over at GameFAQs for that game.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/971481-3d-dot-game-heroes/faqs/59492

Which is not suppose to be done.

Sorry, I did not know that. I went ahead and deleted everything.

I tried to change some words around in a few of them and am waiting to see if the person who made the FAQ will ever respond to my e-mail where I am asking permission to display the full FAQ on Gamewise. Full walkthrough wasn't posted on Gamewise, only the sign post locations - which won't change - and the minigame info and strategies. While I did post the pictures (Which say Form Software 2009 on them BTW. They are in game screenshots.) and descriptions of where to find the sign posts. I unlinked everything that linked back to the map used with those descriptions and direction or that linked to other sections of the FAQ, like the main walkthrough.

Do you even allow that? Can we display them if we can show that we were given permission?

What else is there to do though besides changing a few words to make it look different or sending out a e-mail requesting permission? How could I explain in a different way to unlock Spelunker Mode early, what the trophies are, how to hide your shield or what the weapons/shields are and what their locations are? Does one need to go and rewrite an entire FAQ or create their own unique trophy list or something?

The minigame information where it included detailed strategies I can understand, but the homerun bat is gong to always be obtained with the same instructions. Queen Bee is always going to be in the same temple. The platinum trophy listing is always going to display the same name and description.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

looking good

Full of info.

Is the overall database linked to VGC so when we go to add a game to our list its all there?

When I used to write FAQs for GameFAQs, there's something on there that distinguishes between facts (stuff like numbers, as an example) that can never really be expressed in another way, and the way people present those facts (like if they put them in a table in the way that FAQ writer did). Then, there's also strategies and the like people write for bosses/enemies/etc, which can't be copied.

Trophy lists and descriptions are usually listed like they are from the XMB on the PS3 (at least the way PS3trophies.org lists them). For Spelunker mode, there are two ways to unlock it; inputting your name as SPELUNKER and then rescuing him. For rescuing him, you will have to put the method into your own words.

Yes and as I noted in an edit, I removed all links to the maps that made use of a location such as A5, which in this game is basic btw, it shares the same map style as NES Zelda. The screen even scrolls the same way. Pretty much go as far down and left as you can, move up 4 areas and BOOM, A5.

I also did change things, so it wasn't really word-for-word.

Ancient Sword

Obtained as part of the story at the start of the game. See Getting the Ancient Sword.

Holy Sword

Inside the cave in area G4, between Ortego and the Desert Temple. See the World Map and The Holy Sword and the Anchor Rod sections for details. Requires the Wire Rod.

Hero Sword

Inside the secret tomb in the graveyard on the south end of area A5. The grave that's second from the right and third from the bottom can be pushed north, revealing the tomb. See "Getting the Hero Sword" under The Path to the Wind Temple for a picture and more details.

Note: When you get the Hero Sword, the Ancient Sword will disappear from your sword screen.

In that situation I trimmed them down to this:

Ancient Sword

Obtained as part of the story at the start of the game.

Holy Sword

Inside the cave in area G4 between Ortego and the Desert Temple. Requires the Wire Rod.

Hero Sword

Inside the secret tomb in the graveyard on the south end of area A5. The grave that's second from the right and third from the bottom can be pushed north, revealing the tomb.

I really don't see what the issue was. Like I said, I understand the Block Defense one where it has the entire strategy for every round, including the extra Block Defense mode.

A5 for the graveyard isn't linked at all and I did not include the map that makes use of the numbers.

Everything is fine all of a sudden if I remove "On the south end of area A5" and "in area G4", even though those serve no use at all since the map isn't located on gamewise and nor is it linked?

Sounds like a fuss made over 2 words on this sentence and maybe 1-2 on that one over there. Outside of the minigame section as I mentioned.

See, now it's suddenly okay, but still taken from an FAQ.

Ancient Sword

Sorry to sound like a jerk, that isn't the intent. It's just that even getting some things to work right was bad enough and now I had to get rid of it.

Kinda just killed the whole Gamewise kick I had going for a bit. Too much work if you ask me, especially when GFaqs is right there.

If you want me to be honest though, I think you just mad cause I took the "Master" title away from you on Gamewise for 3DDGH.

Edit - Oh yeah, lol, the Overview written on Gamewise was from me, taken from the VGC 3DDGH thread I made years ago, but then changed a little bit to make it better.

Sure, GameFAQs is right there and everything, but Gamewise is meant to take that aspect of GameFAQs and improve on it, making sure everything is in one spot for people to find info on a game, whether it's to help them through it or to see who helped make it. I didn't mean to bust your chops, but for a site like this, it's not exactly good in people's eyes to see plagiarized material on it.

Yes, you took away my Master title from 3DDGH and I must have my revenge!

This is exciting. I wish I had more time to contribute too it.

I gotta say, the site looks slick as hell.

If you do something similarly minimalist in nature whenever you redesign these forums, I'll be a very happy guy.  Edit:  Not to say the current design of the forums isn't already quite minimalist in styling, of course.

This was done with my shitty MS Paint skills, but I think a layout like this would be really pleasing on the eyes:

Very similar to what we have now, only a bit sleaker and more simplistic like the Gamewise template.  I moved the reply icons up a bit to incorporate them into the person's post, and I decreased the distance between the post and avatar frames, as well as removed a lot of the icons that don't really add anything to the post's content.  Further changes could be done, like turning the username and the dropdown arrow black, and having them float in the middle of the larger, light grey frame instead of in that darker area (my skills aren't advanced enough to represent that in Paint.  =().  You could also get rid of the arrow entirely, and make it so that just hovering over the person's username reveals more information about the user in a little box.

And I'd make it so that the post box is at minimum as long as the avatar box, so the lines align at the bottom for shorter posts, as seen in my example image, but I'd also place a limit on avatar height to make sure some short posts don't end up with a lot of unnecessary empty space within them, and to make sure that that there's no significant empty space between posts.  Longer posts can obviously extend beyond the bottom line designated by the avatar frame.  And, as you can see, there are no signatures, no icons that don't even have any clear meaning at a quick glance, etc. in my example image.  Or mentions of post count or other information that don't have to appear on every post from a user, and that can easily be found by clicking through to their profile.

I quite like the look of this, though I know my tastes may differ from that of many people.

Edit #347:

And this may make me sound pretty dumb, but I remember when we first moved to gamrConnect... 2.0, I think, I would screw up occasionally and click on the quote button ABOVE the post I was intending to quote, because the buttons weren't clearly attached to either post lol.

I really like that idea. Cleans up a lot of the clutter you see below a person's avatar.

I approve of this.

I love it. This is basically what I wanted from VGchartz games section.
