Would Lost Odyssey have sold better if it had the Final Fantasy name?

Yes! 111 82.84%

No! 13 9.70%

I'm looking for sailors! 10 7.46%

Total:134

I imagine it being multi-plat and named FFXIII, it would have sold between 5-7 million copies, even with the gameplay being the same.

Sakaguchi = Final Fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I loved XII, but if I want a real Final Fantasy, I want Sak at the helm.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

So you are asking if it would have sold better if FF was in the title.
Yes.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

If only LO2 was created as a 720 launch title.... If only.....

Lost Odyssey is the unofficial Final Fantasy XII (sakaguchi final fantasy). I suppose the 'last story' is his FFXIII. Albeit with much smaller financing, otherwise the graphics on both would've been even better.

Both would've sold millions if they were released under the brand name aswell as critically aclaimed in the series.

Final fantasy without him and nobuo uematsu just isnt the same.

It didn't really need the Final Fantasy name, all it needed was to release on the Ps3 as well. It's such a shame, Sakaguchi deserved better.

Yep, as a general observation japanese multiplat rpgs sold better on the PS3, just saying...

No, because it's not the name that sells Final Fantasy games, it's their quality.

Name is also important.  FFXIII sold a lot 1st week because of name only, but later on, the craptastic quality made it to stop selling.

If there is a new IP what matters is only the quality of the game.

That is wrong, in japan it is very typical for long awaited games to do great numbers in the first week and then have massive drops.

And if it all were a matter of a brand name why did XIV went to hell from the very first second ? We are forgetting that at first XIII was fairly well received and it was only after most people played the game, were done with it and went on with their lives, that all the internet whinny know-it-alls started bitching about it like it was dooms day. And here we are waiting for XIII-3.

But don't let me spoil another Square Enix hate circle jerk...

Yes. So would have every other JRPG, so that is a pointless question.

Lost Odyssey would have sold better if it was for the PS3, as other JRPGs have proven.

And as for pulling numbers like FFXIII, it would have only been possible if it was near the quality and polish of XIII. The battle system was slow and tedious, the complete opposite of XIII's ATB system.

Pointless question. Of course it would; that's what having a well known brand does.

In my opinion, besides a few story quirks, Lost Odyssey (whilst being a fun game) was so close to FFX it COULDN'T have carried the final fantasy name (besides as maybe FFX related DLC).

Not downing on either game, but both are eerily similar, In a series like FF where each entry is quite different (and is usually slammed for being 'too' different) a game as similar as lost odyssey just wouldnt have fit.

Yes. 100%!

In JP it would sell a lot more. Very strange sales for LO in JP.

The latest years i have completed Lost Odyssey, FFVIII, IX and X. and the PSX-FF masterpieces was experienced and beaten after the release of FFXIII. A game i gave up after about 5 hours. XIII-2? NO. Maybe later but i dont feel the special magic thing with the latest FF-games.

Lost Odyssey, thank you Mistwalker. So good that i imagine Mistwalker feat Square Enix for a LO-FF crossover. for 360 and PS3 (Sales must be worthy)

Lost Odyssey would have sold better if it was on the PS3.

But not The Last Remnant. Feck that game!!!
