Would Lost Odyssey have sold better if it had the Final Fantasy name?

Yes! 111 82.84%

No! 13 9.70%

I'm looking for sailors! 10 7.46%

I own both games and in my opinion Lost Odyssey is better than Final Fantasy 13 in every way but graphics. Would it have sold better with the Final Fantasy name?

Let's talk about this.

If it had the Final Fantasy name it would have sold more than Final Fantasy XIII because it's a better game (provided it would have been multiplatform of course).

Signature goes here!

Yes.

Lost Odyssey is a much better Final Fantasy, than Final Fantasy XIII.

Shame that the series seems to be dead. Also would have done so much better as a Multiplat. JRPGs need that JP userbase, the 360 couldn't offer that despite the game doing outstanding in America.

Any JRPG except (probably) Dragon Quest would sell more if it has Final Fantasy in its name.

I wonder how much a wrpg with the Final Fantasy name would sell?

I started playing LO last week, defeated the first boss (for a first boss, the sob is tough!) and yeah, I already think the game is better than FFXIII.

Square is just a shadow of its former self...just remembering their games on the SNES and PS1, and comparing them to whatever they develop nowadays...it´s sad.

btw, OP, about your sig...where is it from?..some movie?

No, because it's not the name that sells Final Fantasy games, it's their quality.

This would explain why 7 is by far the best selling game in the series.

Obviously. LO felt more like a FF game than any of the actual FF games that came out this generation. Sakaguchi was Squaresoft.

I havent played it, but I would say yes.

Even if it was called Lost Odessey it could have still sold 4 to 5 mil copies in my opinion. The problem is it came out as a console exclusive for the 360.

Where there was not much of a JRPG userbase. And it was very early title, competing with titles like Halo and Gears of War.

So it just got lost in a torrent of unfortunately circumstances.

If Sakaguhi made an RPG today and released it for the PS3 as the main platform of release (not the Wii) I have no doubt that game would sell about 4 - 5 mil copies. His name carries still carries a lot of weight. Sadly he only seems interested in mobile phone games now!

We are ingoring the fact that Lost Odyssey is a 360 exclusive, so the first question would be would it have sold better was it a multiplat.

We are also ignoring the fact Lost Odyssey may be a better RPG than FF XIII, but the latter is not really an rpg nor was it designed as one, its a mixture of rpg, action and tactics.

Thirdly we are still ingoring another fact that for the first time FF XIII tried to break from the classic jrpg story paterns and concentrate on the conflicts amongst the team itself. Many didn't like that but we have a game that was bold enough to to something different and one that was a total cliche.

A brand name alone doesn't sell you 6.5 mil, don't be stubborn people. Lost Odyssey is a very good game BUT it doesn't do any new tricks.

A game that deserved far more attention from producer Square Enix (developed by Cavia) is the stellar Nier. Trully excellent game and innovating but it was rushed, unpolished, filled with tech issues and imbalances.
