Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Size of 3DS Games

It's funny because it's true. i.e. Vita costs more than 3DSLL/XL. High price guaranteed quality. I never heard of a PS3 failing. Have you?

Yea I did.  I heard of the yellow light of death.  Was that just made up?

Ocarina of Time 3DS (60 MB) is almost double the size of Ocarina of Time N64 (32MB). Wonder why that is. That orchestral track probably took up a lot of space but I'm sure they have some sophisticated compression routines nowadays. Honestly can't think of what could account for all the extra space.

I believe 0.47 GB is 470 MB, not 60, if that's what you meant.

But anyway, the game is bigger because on 3DS it has vastly improved character models and high resolution textures. Also, all ingame areas are now actually 3D modelled, unlike in the original game (like Castle Town Market). It also has some extra code because Master Quest is included.

Lastly, there is no orchestral track. The music ingame is exactly the same as in the original, only because of the large capacity of the 3DS cartridge compared to the N64's, they didn't need to compress it. That's why it sounds better on 3DS.

I'm actually surprised the 3DS version it's not even bigger. Not bigger than Star Fox 64 3D even, what happened there!?

Also, Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid are pretty huge, but couldn't 3DS cards be up to 8 GB? So then there's still a lot of wiggle room.

So judging from the max space the 3DS cards have, the 3DS could handle PS2 level games, which is pretty good.

Yeah, it was.  I made a mistake.  According to google 0.47GB = 481.28MB

Yeah, i agree with Other M, also Fire Emblem uses it to tell part of the history. Other that those cases, CGI plays a minor role for Nintendo

I'd say Metroid: Other M and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Subspace Emissary) are the two most CGI-intensive Nintendo developed games.

Here's the list of Nintendo published dual-layered games:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Other M
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story

Pretty amazing how the 3DS cart limit is 8 gigabytes while the (seemingly) massive title Skyrim only contains 5,5.

I'd now like to see some huge Zelda games made for my 3DS, do it Nintendo! :D

(..)

That small??

I once unpacked Napoleon: Total War after the install on PC, and that was like ten times as large!

Even SS was only a bit over 4 GB. Maybe we'll see a massive 6-8 GB Zelda at the Twilight of the 3DS's life.

Love and tolerate.
