The game definitely doesn't do a good job at displaying its main strengths to new players. I do agree that there is a lot of text, so myself skim over most of it. Mainly the sidequests. I would suggest skimming over a bit slower so you can at least understand what's going on. :P 

Story quests become very plentiful around level 22, but it does feel like the story begins to move much more slowly. From what I've heard, it really picks up later on. I also will say that the second primal boss battle I did last night was SO much fun.

Also, a lot of your fun will be dictated by the class you chose. What are you currently playing as? I found arcanist/scholar to be really fun, but gladiator and archer I find super boring. Marauder/Warrior is hella fun though.

I've been trying to log in for 6 hours, now. Don't think I'll get in, but I'm having fun watching this Dota 2 tournament while I spam my log in button.

 

SMN, SCH, and WHM since those are what I played in XI. My proble with that is everyone seems to have a carbuncle in XIV. :(

What server are you on? Legacy servers tend to have more arcanists currently due to the fact that many 1.x players have experienced the other classes and wanted to immediately dive into something new. That being said, I myself haven't seen many scholars (and they don't have carbuncles!) on Sargatanas. Most of them insist on becoming summoners and waiting for hours to queue up for dungeons.

No idea why, because I find scholar to be the most interesting and fun class to play right now. Nothing like microing your own pet while dancing around boss fights yourself.

Still haven't been able to log on. It's been an 11 hour battle today. I think I concede. I'll wait until wednesday to play (since the servers will be down the entire evening tomorrow). So far my favorite things about this game are the graphics, art style, the feeling of being in an alive world, the supportive and cooperative community, the amazingly fun boss battles, and of course playing with the best guildmates a man can ask for.

First you have to get to level 10 on the class you started the game with. I believe you also have to finish the level 10 class quest for that class, although I am unsure.

After that, the game should notify you with a pop-up message saying you can now choose other classes. At this point, all you have to do to change a class is go to that class' guild, do the intro talk "quest", and receive your first weapon/tool. From there on out, you can switch between your classes by simply swapping your weapon/tool.

Later on (I think you unlock this at a higher level), you can save your gear sets so that you can switch between full sets (full armor, accessories, and weapon) with a simple press of a button.

Final Fantasy 14 PS3 players will be able to play PS4 beta for free

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn players that begin their quest on the PS3 will be able to play the PS4 version's beta for free, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced today. The beta for the PS4 version of A Realm Reborn will launch alongside the console in Japan on February 22.

A Square Enix Europe press release confirms players will be able to carry over character data when transitioning from PS3 to PS4. The date noted in the press release is also February 22, indicating the PS4 beta will likely begin globally on that day.
