Forums - Sales Discussion - Ps3 price drop due really soon?

According to bloomberg.com, they had an article that talked with a sony represenative. It stated that the blu-ray production was able to increase rapidly, which means that the production will not cost as much money. The prices of blu-ray have a huge possiblility to drop significantly due to factories able to churn out more monthly.

"At present 1.7 million laser diodes are manufactured with Sony Shiroishi Semiconductor. Production could increase Sony according to own data to monthly 5 millions, if it requires the market situation.

Takashi Uehara, a speaker for Sony, stresses that the company has enough capacity blue laser diodes for the PlayStation3 to make Blu-ray Player available and Blu-ray recorders."

Yes that will help the price drop but no one knows if there will be one soon. There could be one 3 years from now. But you never know.

Nobody knows when Sony will have a price cut except Sony. Why not just wait for an official announcement?

There is no reason to not lower blu ray price at all. It is already known now that the manafacturing of ps3's are probably cheaper then they are selling it. Because of this information is telling us how cheaply they are manafacturing it.

I can think of a good reason, profit. They are not running a charity.

Yeah...I'm gonna need a link that says PS3s cost less to manufacture than they are selling them for.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I have yet to see a single article, link, rumor, or snippet that even indicates that it is already cheaper to manufacture the PS3. They have reduced costs by removing the emotion engine chip (a max of $50). However I have seen signs that they are still losing money cutting the 500 dollar SKU and such and the afore mentioned removing teh emotion engine but selling at full price. The 360 is known to be selling at a profit for teh Premimium however.

It is really my prediction, due to the reason why blu ray costs so much as of right now is due to the diode failure, and that it is hard to manafacture. It seems like this data changes this all, due to them being able to successfully produce 5 million a month.

They are only producing 1.7 million a month and it is only one component of the whole system. BTW if it is only your guess you should of said that you figured that it would be cheaper to produce than what they sell for and not itis known because it is not known.

It might be a smaller gap of loss or breakin even but I don't think profit is coming from selling PS3. With that said I don't think Sony thought it was going to be able to have such a price drop in manufacturing so soon. Between the Bluray diode and the IBM processors . I think a price drop is going to happen pretty soon but who knows?
