Which do you prefer The Joker or Bane as a villain in The Dark Knight series

Forums - General Discussion - Which do you prefer The Joker or Bane as a villain in The Dark Knight series

I'm going to go with the Joker, he's just a scarier individual.

Bane is someone easier for Batman to "get". He's a physical force, something Batman understands. Bane just happened to get lucky that Batman had been out of the game for 8 years and was probably out of shape, because he got his ass whupped pretty soundly the second time they fought. And he's the standard League of Shadows crazy, Batman/Bruce has seen all that before and understands their MO.

The Joker ... all bets are off. Batman doesn't understand him because he's quite frankly completely insane. The Joker forces Batman to compromise his morals to beat him. You're talking about a character who quite possibly self-mutilated his own face. Even to characters like Rhas Al Ghul and Bane, they would consider the Joker to be nuts. The Joker is a character that wouldn't give a second thought to murdering a bus load of kids ... for Rhas or Bane or Talia, even if their idea of justice is horribly skewed, they still would think twice about that.

Even in the comic books, the Joker beats Robin to a bloody pulp with a crowbar and then kills him by blowing him up (Robin 2). He kidnaps Barbara Gordon after shooting her in the stomach, strips her naked and takes photographs to torture Jim Gordon with in the hopes of driving him insane.

I am still not sure I like how Deckard Bane was interpreted in the film. The Joker was a better villain in the movies all round IMO.

Did you miss the part where the Joker actor died?

no why do you ask?

Because you're talking about movies. He was in one movie. Not two, or three. One. Illiterate.

Next, Joker's death made his acting a triumph, but without it Bane is better in his movie as the main protaganist. He did far more damage, was more relateable, can actually standup to Batman (he is stronger.. fact), and by all means he was one scary ass mother-efer. Joker is just an insane guy who never really got anything his way. His only triumph was realized in Rises when Bane told the truth, so Jokers only victory goes to Bane.

I just meant he was the better villan from the Nolan movies. Not that he was in more than one... Calling me Illiterate is way out of line BTW, it's just a bit of poor wording on my part.

Also I think you are far underestimating what the Joker actually did. He created 2 face destroying Gothem's (other) hero (who then basically destroyed Batman as an Icon by corrupting his image), killed the love of Bruce's life which judging from what we see in the start of TDKR basically destroyed his life for 8 years, and also did a lot of damage to the city by forcing the evacuation of all hopitals (causing many deaths for petiants that were in a critical condition and culdn't get care) and then blowing one up as it was being evacuated. The Joker is anarchy incarnate he counters Batman by being unpredictable, as Batman's greatest weapon is his ability to anticipate what people are going to do. And he is also a much more interesting character to watch.

And I don't see how Bane reading out Gordon's letter that cleared Batman's name of Dent's murder in cold blood is in any way a win for the Joker, the dent act was already going to be repealed and Gordon replaced before Bane read the letter.

Bane on the other hand at the end of the day is a pawn, he is the muscle used to execute Talia's plan for revenge. He beats a out of practice and unfit Batman, and then got beaten by a reborn Batman before Talia stepped in. And while he blew up a lot of stuff his direct death toll isn't much higher than the Jokers when you think about it. He also sounds like Deckard Cain and had a cheap death.

couldnt agree more and you forget to mention the way batman actualy find the joker at the end...with the sonar. i find this very important because this shows what a mastermind he actualy was..

He was not a pawn, she loved him (like a friend I guess), but yeah I know what you mean. But what bothered me most was that Bane was wasted at the end. Nolan was creating this ultimate badass villain, and then replaced him for a chick who got killed in a car accident.

A guy wearing a mask, how can you even ask this?

In the comics, when Bane appeared, I thought he was the greatest thing, ever. I was a big fan of Doomsday (Superman's killer), too. These guys that come in and beat the hell out of the invincible hero instantly get kicked up a notch, in my book.

I've been dying to see Bane done right in other media ever since. Just seeing him in the spotlight as a capable and clever "anti-Batman" put him ahead of the Joker, for me......but then they made him just a goon for Talia Al Ghul. As soon as it was revealed that she was running things and Bane was just her lackey, his stock fell.

Meanwhile, Ledger did an amazing job with Joker. His death had no bearing on my opinion because I'd never seen him in anything before (never saw Tom Hardy in anything, either) and when I watched TDK, I didn't even think about him being dead. His portrayal was just an amalgam of everything I thought the Joker should be and it made the movie.

Joker takes it.

WHAT?? As a renowned Space-Ship Captain you should be aware of Shinzon!

he even sits like you!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I saw TDKR at the weekend and thought it was phenomenal, way exceeding any expectations I had. The only weak link for me,was Bane. If they had just chosen a more serious voice to go with I would have bought into the character but it was borderline comical and I found myself cringing a lot. It really took away any menace that was built up.
Heath Ledger was so brilliant in TDK to the point of overshadowing everyone/thing else on screen. For me there is absolutely no comparison between Hardy's Bane & Ledgers' Joker.
I do think Hardy is a very good actor but he just didn't do it for me in this movie.

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

He uses the make up, he even moves it with his expressions. He expresses himself with it. It is like the King does:
