Forums - General Discussion - Which do you prefer The Joker or Bane as a villain in The Dark Knight series

So I watched The Dark Kngiht Rises today which was an awesome movie, and I was thinking how good the villain Bane was going to be compared to The Joker, because Heath Ledger done such an amazing job as the Joker. Well Bane did an incredible job in "Rises", so great that I'm not really sure which actor did a better job as the villain of the movie.

So what do you guys think, who do you think did a better job as the villain, which do you prefer?

Why are you asking me when I haven't even seen the movie yet?

i'm going to go with bane for one reason only... as good a job as heath did with the joker the joker has always been an amazing villain. bane has never been a particularly deep, interesting villain until now. hardy/nolan did an amazing job making bane relevant which is a huuge accomplishment imo.

Very true, especially when this was the last time we seen Bane

Well it was just you and me at the time.

In the comics, when Bane appeared, I thought he was the greatest thing, ever. I was a big fan of Doomsday (Superman's killer), too. These guys that come in and beat the hell out of the invincible hero instantly get kicked up a notch, in my book.

I've been dying to see Bane done right in other media ever since. Just seeing him in the spotlight as a capable and clever "anti-Batman" put him ahead of the Joker, for me......but then they made him just a goon for Talia Al Ghul. As soon as it was revealed that she was running things and Bane was just her lackey, his stock fell.

Meanwhile, Ledger did an amazing job with Joker. His death had no bearing on my opinion because I'd never seen him in anything before (never saw Tom Hardy in anything, either) and when I watched TDK, I didn't even think about him being dead. His portrayal was just an amalgam of everything I thought the Joker should be and it made the movie.

Joker takes it.

I agree with this 100%

Bane genuinly surprised me.  I expected Joker to be amazing, and he 100% was.  Bane I thought would be at least decent since this is Nolan Batman, but Hardy and Nolan managed to elevate the character and add so much depth into him it blew me away.

They both are fantastic and they go about destroying Batman / Gotham completly differently.  But in the end of the day I have to lean towards Bane, simply because they managed to elevate his character so much.  We had seen amazing Jokers before even if Ledgers version is the best, we've never seen Bane portrayed so well.
