I wasn't sure the gameplay of this title would click for me. It was the beautiful monster animations that compelled me to buy it. I'm pleased to say that the gameplay did not disappoint. Capcom just has a knack for making clumsy, ponderous combat a feature rather than a bug (see Resident Evil series). Also, there's something deeply compelling about crafting nearly all of your equipment out of resources that you harvest for yourself.

I saw a lot of recommendations for MHTri when I was looking for an online game to play on Wii with a friend of mine. I didn't really know what Monster Hunter was back then. Still might give this a try one day. What's it like, grindy? Is the co-op play any good?

We ended up just spending most of our time arsing around on Mario Kart unfortunately.

I'm not sure how the co-op plays as I haven't done that properly yet. I got into a group and I was in a differnt city from where I am in the single player game. Then people kept asking me if I was coming and I couldn't figure out where I should go. Once I found them, I couldn't figure out how to join them in a quest so I just gave up. I'll try to play later with a friend to see if we can figure it out. Didn't feel like having random people wait for me to learn how to join the same quest.

To join a quest someone has initiated (who are still in town waiting for people to join up) you have to go to the bulletin board on the left side of the counter from the girl you get the quests from.  If there is no password protection then you should be able to join (as long as you meet the level requirements for that quest).  Then you go up to the top left and it will give you an option to state that you are ready for the quest then once everyone is ready the group leader starts the quest.

Thanks for that. I went to the girl to ask for the quest so I couldn't tell which one they joined. :)

I have recently begun playing monster hunter tri. Didn't know this series was so awesome! Wow!! Impressive game.

On a side note, I prefer the Wii controls to using the classic pro controller. The same thing happened with Xenoblade. Does anyone else prefer Wiimote+Nunchuk in these games to the classic/classic pro? Somehow I really like the way the wiimote+nunchuk feels.

The fact you are playing with the wiimote is nothing short of mindblowing, all respect to you

Glad you have found the series & are enjoying it, Tri is a great intro M.H but it was one of my Later M.H games & I found it a bit dissapointing relative to other M.h games (but still good overall, I just love the hunting horn & gunlance & both were omitted (alongside the bow & dual blades) in tri)

My housemate has just bought a Vita & we are playing freedom unite co-op at the mo, shes an extreme casual (and i'm a regular casual) so helping her get used to M.h is a bit trying, but worth it. If you havent co-op'ed, definitely do, its a magnitude more fun than solo.

& if you like tri, give freedom unite or portable 3rd (both available on either psp or vita (though p3rd is only on vita if you have jap psn) a try when you re done, both take the game to a whole new level. I have a feeling MH4 will be another MH with limited content (like tri & 3g) so as a next step if you enjpoy the series i';d definitely recommend a 'complete' monster hunter game like Freedom Unite or Portable 3rd.

MHtri is one of my favorite games of all time. I totally fell in love with it when i first played it. I still have the demo disc that you could order from capcom before release. Good times ^.^

I have been playing MHFreedom Unite. Its interesting but i had a few issues with it.

The beggining is very slow and you have to learn alot of stuff. Its a complex game no doubt.
So, you need to go through alot of boredom while learning the ropes. After that the game gets into gear and becomes more interesting, still very grindy but interesting to try and figure out how to take out those huge beasts and get better gear. My only problem is that i'd like to see a bit more story to it to give the player a drive to carry on.

I'm hoping MH3G and MH4 improve upon it. I'm optimistic that they will be announced for western release soon enough.

Monster Hunter is a series whose value is best expressed via local multiplayer; even more so than Smash or Mario Kart.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think it's much better on a handheld, but still MH Tri is awesome!

Name: KLASH, I have over 1500+ hours. Let me know.

Play with this guy.  He is a beast on this game.  I've played with him many, many times.

MH Tri is a great game.  It is so good that you don'y know how good it really is until you play it for at least 50 hours.

I still think that game is evil. Took 10 hours a day of my life away. I was looking to get away. The only complaint is that it ends and we still don't got a new monster hunter since tri.
