There are many, many more games that could be added to this list. Things like Demons Souls/ Dark Souls. Fallout. Elder Scrolls. Fable. Hitman. Splinter Cell. Metal Gear Solid. Dragon Age. Walking Dead. Monkey Island. So many games...

Too many to list. Any game in your favoured genres with a Metascore above 65 is worth a look.

My recommendation is always to go PC/PS3 for HD games because that represents the largest range of games with only owning one console. OTOH if you can get a $99 360 (WITHOUT having to sign up for a 2 year subscription) then you might as well go all in to see the generation out.

I can not say anything about MS exclusives because I would rather stab myself to death with a wooden spoon than touch anything from them :P

So your decent PC doesn't run on Windows? Even if you run software to get your games on UNIX it's still Windows based.

@Topic: if you don't have very much time to play games one console is enough. And Wii has a lot of good games that last for a long time.

Good games for the other consoles have been named multiple times now.

I was somewhat in the same situation, except I have a decent PC in addition to my Wii so I played the majority of third party games. However, I got a PS3 really cheap early this year only to discover that I really haven't missed that much. From what I played the following PS3 games are worth playing:
-Demons Souls and/or Dark Souls
-any Uncharted. I played 3, it's decent.
-Red Dead Redemption
and thats about it...I also played FF13, 13-2, God of War 3, Killzone 3, GTA 4 and Resistance 3 but none of those games are games that you miss out on if you don't play them.

Since you don't have a PC I would add Bioshock 1+2, Arkham City, Deus Ex: HR, Fallout: New Vegas and Portal 2 to the list.

I can not say anything about MS exclusives because I would rather stab myself to death with a wooden spoon than touch anything from them :P

What operating system are you running those PC games on?

I've never understood MS haters. I've been using Windows since 3.1, before that DOS. I've been enjoying their games since Flight Simulator. Halo, the whole franchise is amazing. Seriously, other than minor gripes, what's to hate so much?

Of course I'm running Windows. My gripe is 100% console related. I didn't really make myself clear so, sorry. I just don't like anything about Microsoft being in the console space. It's a big faceless organization. I have no idea who's at the helm in their console area. Nintendo has faces and even Sony has faces. I don't like the way they bought themselves into the console sector. I don't like their target (media hub). I don't like their IP's. I hate Halo (It's like an artificial life form bred in vitro and brought to life with an overwhelming marketing machinery). I hate their overpowering approach of pumping money into the sector until every competitor is dead. And because of this I blame Microsoft for the current state of the console industry. Nintendo couldn't keep up with the ridiculous arms race and pulled out early. Luckily it kinda worked out so far but I blame MS for the "weak" Nintendo consoles we have today. Sony was and still is foolish enough to think they can keep up with this shit and as a result of this they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Microsoft will not stop to pump money into this sector until every competitor is either gone or marginalized. They will not stop to heavily subsidize their consoles, they will not stop to moneyhat games and they will not stop to accelerate progression to a pace nobody else can stick with, not even game developers and publishers. People think progress is good and it is, but not at the current pace, its destructive.

This approach coupled with the fact that everybody except american citizens has to pay more money for a heavily crippled console. Therefore I decide to vote with my wallet and not buy anything MS console related EVER. I pride myself in the fact that my hands didn't touch a Xbox or Xbox360 controller yet and never will be. This is my own opinion and everyone is free to agree or disagree with it, but you will not change it. So don't try to reason with me, it's futile.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Excellent contribution, your wisdom knows no bounds.

Gaming, pretty much. Honestly, I love Nintendo (I was going to say "as much as the next guy" but I suspect there's a lot bigger Nintendo fans on here than me!) but I don't understand how they can prop up your gaming needs for a whole generation. They excel so well in certain genres but others have been almost completely ignored on the Wii - perhaps not so much on the handhelds, I don't follow them as much.

Anyway, judging from those lists you gave:

Action/Adventures (I'll lump them into one because sometimes it's hard to tell the difference) - Uncharted, Demon's/Dark Souls, Portal 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Journey, God of War 3 (and you can play the first 2 on PS2!), Metal Gear Solid 4 (same deal as God of War),

Strategy - Starhawk (weird one, but consider it. Online shooter with RTS elements), C&C Red Alert 3 (!)

FPS - Team Fortress 2 (PC), Left 4 Dead 2

Platform - LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (play any of the PS3 games though, they're all good).

And if you like racing games, this gen has been pretty good for them too - Blur, Motorstorm, WipEout HD etc.

That's my admittedly PS3-biased view at it, anyway.

If you REALLY felt like you were missing out on something you really wanted, you'd have bought one by now.

I, for example, bought a PS3 (over a year ago) cuz, at the time, there was a serious shortage in RPG games on the Wii and the one that I really wanted to get (Tales of Graces) had just been ported over to PS3. ~I like Tales! (Wish I didn't, Namco's been so nasty with Tales and westerners this gen -_-)

I even seriously thought about buying a X360 at one point almost solely for Vesperia but seeing as how most games are multiplat between PS360 and I already played Alan Wake (biggest exclusive for me), I couldn't justify the cost (not just the console, but all the new controllers, equipment, subscriptions...etc).

Each person has their own killer app type of game and you should look and find something you think you'd enjoy!

Thanks.

I was actually going to edit in something that would've been slightly helpful. But I might as well put it here, now:

FFXIII/FFXIII-2 and Tails of ___. That's all that I can think of that I liked/played/saw.
