Forums - Sony Discussion - Question for any Twisted Metal (2012) players

Is the censoring the developers/publishers fault? Or was it an EU Pegi issue or something? If so, don't knock the people who put all that hard work to make that game.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Around the Network

I would have got the game but I could never get into a game during the beta. Now I'm just waiting for the game to drop in price because I can't buy it used with the online pass.

I played a couple weeks ago and the online issues were mostly fixed but the community is dead. Plus online trophies that require accumulation are still glitched and not working.

It's a shame they rushed the game out the door with little care for quality or consumers, because it's an amazing game. But the online issues killed the community before it had a chance to blossom.

Im getting Twisted Metal and Starhawk very soon.Bills come first though.I think both these games are insanely good.People need to go out and buy them and support these games.Enjoy your ps3 to the fullest this is the golden age of video games. These games have been worked on for years and years and people need to spread the word on psn to buy them.I played Starhawk and the game is incredible the engine is killer.Warhawk was good but Starhawk kicks A$$! Twisted metal is an old school classic a must buy in my book. I have heard this game is fixed and online is fun.Resistance 3 also had online issue's but they are fixed now game runs like a gem.Im sure Twisted Metal Runs like a gem now to.

Germany needed a censored version, SCEE decided since TM is mainly popular in the US "Let us be cheap arses and instead of making two versions for Europe, censor it for everyone!"

Because that is likely to spark EU interest...

Sounds like a very reasonable decision. Do you know what the added cost or development time it would have been to do two versions? Is it really that big of an issue? A little bit of censorship like that doesn't ruin the game, it just cut a little cut scene right? If its that much of an issue import it from the US.

At above just import from USA for non censored version. I will probably get twisted metal and Starhawk soon when I see a price drop (cause both are not selling well, bound for price drop soon).

They made two versions anyway, censored and uncensored, so it would have cost them nothing to 'develop' it.  They changed some special attacks also, not just cutscenes.

Out of interest, what special attacks did they change?  After a bit of research I only found one, Meat Wagon's special attack (patient on a gurney) was changed to being dead rather than alive when fired - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115683-Twisted-Metal-Delayed-and-Censored-for-Europe.

Tbh, it made very little difference to my gameplay - I didn't even know he was supposed to be alive when I first played the game!  But, I do understand why people might be annoyed as it seems un-necessary.

That's not true otherwise it would be a lot easier to get versions to other regions. Smaller games and even bigger ones sometimes have to launch at different times in other places to handle the differences even if the game is the same. Dyad for instance released in the US but the developer is hard at work to get it over in the EU. If it was just a simple thing of copy and paste or informing SCEA and SCEE at the same time we wouldn't have discrepancies like this. Or in Japan, plenty of titles only appear over there and one might say its because they don't sell over here, but if it was effortless to get it over here on PSN digitally atleast, why don't they? It seems like the chances are very superficial and the person to blame is according to you Germany's censorship board. If you need the uncensored version, import. Thankfully PS3's aren't region locked.

I did'nt know people still played this game. I sold it along time ago. lol

Publishing issues and costs are what stops games between regions in the examples you list.  Does not apply to what was mentioned, SCEE was cheap and users suffered for it, the game bombed so SCEE got what deserved.

To be fair, even in its heyday, Twisted Metal has always sold really poorly in Europe.  Proportionally, this one didn't sell worse than any of the others.  I assume that has something to do with why they were unwilling to put extra effort in.
