Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is Dead

So, people don't want to believe Kotaku, so they use another source that no one's ever heard of to back up their argument. People know of Kotaku. Who the heck is this RGPsite guy? Why should I care what he has to say? What info has he ever given before anyone else that turned out to be true?

Besides, saying he was told "quite recently" that Nomura was still hard at work doesn't prove anything. How recent does "very recently" mean? He could very well have been told this right before the cancellation. Nomura told people again in May to be patient. Whatever news this RPGSite guy has could very well just be from a time period shortly after Nomura's plea for people to be patient and before the cancellation.

I just don't understand why this RPGSite guy is more credible than Kotaku. Why does his word trump Kotaku's again?

lulz Erren Van Duine/Kagari is a girl not a guy.

Frankly, I no longer care. SE has been churnig out sub-par games for years. Sure, they may be pleasing to the eye, but they no longer have the content of games past. For me, the last true FF game was FFIX as it was the last one I played with an actual world map, towns and a bunch of crazy side quests (chocobo treasure hunting anyone?).

They ruined Parasite Eve with the 3rd b-day, they made star ocean crap with that SO4 crap, they never made a sequel for Vagrant Story which was one hell of a game. Lame SE, really Lame!

Thank God for Sega for Resonance of Fate and Valkyria Chronicles, otherwise I'd have been a sad gamer.

SO4 is actually quite good and popular. Dunno if you're just saying that.

I haven't heard many good things from SO4. None of console games from SE this gen seem to have been good/great. Their smaller, handheld games have been much better. I'm starting to fear for the quality of KH III...

The game was looking spectacular, with open-ended scenarios; active combat, great looking characters, what looks to be an interesting story (the protagonist was really important), dark themed as FFVII - FFVIII; no girly looking dudes, no manly acting girls.

This is so disappointing. It looks like SE indeed hates Tetsuya Nomura, he should just resign and talk with Sony, I bet they would hire him in no time, or at least they would do a project with him (keiji Inafune, Seth Kilian).

Seriously, tell me how many renowned developers that left the company that made them famous and ended up create something good again?I am honestly tired of seeing talent beeing lost. Sega without Yu suzuki and Yuji Naka, that left to create nothing relevant. Shinji mikami, Inafune, etc.

Even Sakaguichi, wich was the only one that managed to create something so,so doesnt make games as big as FF7 or 9.

I really prefer that they stay put so we can get more of the goodness that we know they can make. The games they can make without the support of the big company that saw them grow really arent anywhere near as good. Nomura wouldnt be anything without the KH brand. Not even Sony would let him develop a game like Versus 13 without the final fantasy brand backing him up.

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head here. I dont think Tetsuya Nomura is good, i think hes werid. I mean that film Advent Children was representative of everything SE is doing wrong; all style, NO substance. i dont think relying on a developer like Nomura is the answer.

I feel that this is the problem with Square Enix and Japanese developers at the moment. Relying on these names like Nomura, Kojima et al, in top down development teams to control the project. If you look at somewhere like Naughty Dog, the entire team works in a hollisitic manner. In Japan they work differently. I honestly think there is great potential from Japanese developers, but the problem is that i dont see younger, talented developers coming through. Here is the west you have so many studios with young (men and women) contributing much to the development process; in Japan not so much.

i feel thats the problem with their industry at the moment. Kenji Infuane recently spoke about this, i cant remember what he said, but i know Shinji Mikami also spoke about this, and got the situation completely wrong.

In a nutshell, whether Versus 13 is coming or not, i think it will be all style over substance, like what we've seen in the trailers so far.

Why are people blaming Square for a Tri-Ace game that would have been released by Enix had Square never merged with them?

Kotaku mentioned that the game had been canned prior to the article so, wouldn't the Official Site be closed by now?

It was bound to happen.

Actually I don't think they canceled it.

They talked a lot about it, they said it was almost completed, they said they were choosing things to show to the media.

Plus, it looks great and they worked on it for like 6 years.

Actually I expect some news at the Tokyo Game Show.
