Will watch.

Genius, absolutely genius. Nintendo should defiantly do this idea

First of all, that guy needs to have a list of things to talk around in front of him - he rambles, and can't keep his sentences coherent, because he's pretty much blurting out anything that comes into his mind, rather than finishing the current thought first.

Second, I'm not a big fan of the idea as he's described it. Why not? Because it sounds clunky, it sounds like the "Architect" doesn't get much actual gameplay (compare with NSMBU, where the equivalent person gets to actively help).

The basic concept, though, is good... and an idea I had for Wii/DS connectivity in a Smash Bros game, at least for certain special stages.

The real instance of a stage that I thought would have been great for a touchscreen element was the one based on pictochat. The player with the touchscreen gets to draw pretty much whatever they want, and the shapes drawn get interpreted as various sorts of stage features. A straight line that is mostly horizontal becomes a platform, a straight line that is mostly vertical becomes a barrier, a zig-zag running horizontally or vertically becomes spikes, but a zig-zag running diagonally becomes platform levels (small zig-zagging becomes stairs). You get the idea.

By having the entire stage be in the control of the person with the touchscreen, with the ability to pretty much come up with anything you want, they get to be as much a part of the game as anyone else. In other levels, there would have to be alternatives. One idea would be to actually have "Malevolent Stage" mode, where the touchscreen player, rather than playing as a character, is actually the stage itself, getting KOs by triggering stage dangers at the right moments - and they win by having a high KO rate relative to their use of stage dangers. This may include, for instance, Master Hand and Crazy Hand on the Battlefield stage (after all, what are those two, other than stage dangers?). Stages might also have weak points that can be attacked, to give the other players a way to directly reduce the stage's score (each weak point would have a way for the Stage-player to defend it, but use of stage dangers would be limited in timing, so once one is activated, the next can't be activated for a few seconds.

There could also be playable characters that can only be played with the Upad. For instance, they could include Amaterasu from Okami in the game, but only playable on the Upad - they would then have access to the Celestial Brush, although they wouldn't be able to pause the game while using it. There could also be a character that can only use the Upad because its controls are entirely touchscreen-based (or mostly touchscreen-based - perhaps allowing basic movement using an analog stick).

And while I don't mind the idea of the one with the Upad being able to trigger items, it would need to be vary well-set-up to make sure it doesn't become difficult. The method described by that guy doesn't sound very efficient for the player. A layout somewhat like that of Lemmings could work, with the game screen taking up most of the space, and then a set of items and options along the bottom that allow the player to activate things (tap pokeball for random pokeball, hold it for a popup list of pokemon that it could contain). With limits set by the players at the start of the match, it would keep it from getting absurd unless specifically desired.

you know i make my videos this way for a reason sorry if you dont like it....

also my idea is actully pretty great if you actually think about it..... or watch the video? anyways :/ its not meant for you to feel like your playing 100% of the time. its supposed to be similar to using the luma in mario galaxy 2 (you're involved but aren't actually part of the match aka you cant "win) . also the "writing" idea i mention in the comments section on youtube:

" if they had a swapnote level you would be able to use my idea to draw allover the map. it would be funny since all your writing would be platforms if you could actually lock a person in a small circle till you run out of ink and your writing disappears."

I like it. While I wouldn't want it to be the main style of playing the game, I think it would be great as an alternate mode.

Really cool idea.

How about making a vid on this idea for mariokart aswell. See what youtube would say.
