Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Gametrailers sux, where to go now?

Checkt GT yesterday and it felt slow. I never understand why websites change their layout if everyone is already use to and happy with what's there.

So many game sites seem to be unable to do smooth redesigns.

Gametrailers I actually think is okay but has some major issues. The video player will sometimes do nothing but show ridiculously blocky videos. Also the display is screwed up. There was a review listed as Amazing Spider-man DS, I click it and it's the console version...... that isn't a proper alternate. Also as seems to be the way with many sites now it seems that newer design = Bury everything one step deeper in menus. I used to be able to get to AVGN by just clicking screwattack then his tab. Two clicks. Whereas now it goes shows - AVGN - see all. Why the extra click?

Still it's a damn sight better than other redesigns. Kotaku's was so terrible and the attitude of the writers so arrogant that I entirely stopped using the site.

Likewise IGNs new design is beyond awful. It has been months and I still don't know where to find movie reviews. Like I know I can click the movie tab and there are the top 10 hot reviews. But a list of all recent reviews? I dunno I can't find it.

I absolutely hate extra clicks. If they do extra clicks I don't go there. Why dothey do that? Do they gain extra views and more ad revenue from it?

Btw too long or too frequently repeated ads, I don't go there. Sometimes on YouTube you have to watch the whole 30 seconds, sometimes you can skip it after 5 seconds. If it's the full 30 seconds I go somewhere else. How does IGN on Youtube do it?

I also hate when sites sort the content too much like you describe. I don't want their "hot" reviews shove down my throat. Give me an easy to browse, complete list.

I have been disappointed with the redisign aswell.

Their search function used to be bad but now its even worse. I wanted to find some videos and the review of Monster hunter freedom and the game just isnt listed anymore when i search for it. As far as i know they have removed it.

I really dont understand the remodeling. I get that they wanted the site to go hand in hand with the show design, but it just looks like crap.

Forums/Website was as glitchy as a Bethesda game so they had to Re-make the site from scratch.

That is why they changed it :), I still go on the forums though :P

I just search "___ game Trailer"

or I watch Toby Turner's literal trailers.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

The idea of someone posting on the VGC forums asking for a cure to a bad site redesign is deliciously ironic.

I suspect the extra clicks has to do with both getting more page views but also ipads. Honestly since the ipad/iphone became popular a lot of sites webdesign has become worse. I think sorting content and requiring extra clicks is because with the ipad it's hard to press a button if it's crowded as you need to zoom in to make sure you hit the right one. So rather than display everything they bit meal it to you.

You should get adblock to handle ads. I don't remember the last time I saw one lol. I thik igns reviews on youtube go straight to the review, no ads. But hard to tell.

Also the problem with ign isn't that they sort content too much. It's that the content literally seems impossible to find on the site! lol. Even googling it I can only find a list of video reviews which they only do for select movies.... So I guess if a movie review isn't brand new or in the hot 10 then it just isn't there.

The new gametrailers has another annoying problem I found. The search feature seems WAY less useful. For example I just searched for Zelda. The 5 games displayed on this first page are oracle of seasons, wind waker, minnish cap, phantom hourglass and spirit tracks..... Really? So apparently the search function isn't working on most recent or most popular but simply hey here's a grab bag of games with that in the title.

Why the hell aren't the more recent titles in there? Why is a portable game from 2001 the first result? WHO KNOWS!

EDIT: LOL been trying to search for things and see what happens. Do a search for uncharted and of the 5 results on the first page only one of them is an uncharted game (Golden Abyss). The first result is a strategy game on the nes..... Yea. The new search is just terrible.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.
