Casino Royale 2006 Review

Forums - Movies Discussion - Casino Royale 2006 Review

Great review! I'd give Casino Royale the same score. It features awesome chase scenes (the parkour one at the beginning is my favorite) and a good straightforward plot.

I agree with you that the film is not humorless, in fact Bond telling Le Chiffre "I've got a little itch, down there. Would you mind?" was one of the funniest line in a Bond movie ever.

You did touch on the product placement a little but I just wanted to say that the airport scene is ridiculous in how obvious they make it (especially Smirnoff vodka and Sony TVs).

Finally, I need your help amp!!! Is Mathis a bad guy or not? I thought he was after Le Chiffre told James "Your friend Mathis is really my friend Mathis" but in Quantum of Solace, they seem to get along just fine.

I still have not seen License to kill at Half priced books, hopefully someday it will show up on Vhs.

Then the bourne movies are copying the original material and they both just happen to have the same type of pacing and action.

What's with you and VHS? Don't you know that DVD players are like 30 bucks or less nowadays?

In Quantum Of Solace it was all revealed that Mathis is not a bad guy at all (Vesper set Bond up, but was also behind White not killing him - she was to give him the money).  Unfortunately, something horrible happens to Mathis.  Poor guy, always getting the short end of the stick.

I don't know about that.  The Bond movies don't have any half hour long car chases.  Heck, the entire Bourne trilogy is a chase scene.  I'm honestly not trying to bad mouth the Bourne trilogy, as I do like it but the Craig Bond movies aren't that similar in my eyes and I do find them to be superior.  Let's face it, the Bourne movies don't have much of a story except that he has amnesia, is being chased, and doesn't know why.

VHS tapes are only 50 quid at Half price books ( for everyone) so I still purchase them. Mainly I will buy children's movies for my kids, but if a rare oldie pops up I will buy that. I save my Dvd purchases for new releases.

Another cool thing the car flip won a guinness world record.

You should get the blu ray version has a lot of cool extra's. Anyways cant wait for the Quantum of Solace review maybe then I can finally understand the plot :)

Yeah, I'm still stuck in the world of DVDs.  I suppose that it's a set up from VHS though.

How many flips did it actually do?  Do you remember?

The pattern I tend to see is that Americans like the Craig films, and the British do not.

Can any other British people confirm this?

So why is Le Chiffre under the impression that Mathis is his friend? I always figured it was Mathis who told Le Chiffre about the tell.
