Since the Nintendo3ds is now the main home of the Monster Hunter franchise, I think it can become popular internationally, maybe even 'Pokemon level' popular... if Capcom plays their cards right. I mean look at the trailer and the epicness. Now imagine playing that with 3 of your buddies in the same room or online(if there is).

So here are some things I think Capcom can do to make the franchise a real success outside of Japan.

Market to the pokemon audience- If anyone is gonna play the multiplayer locally(the main appeal of the game), its the pokemon audience. Just needs to be marketed to the kids/folks properly. What kind of person doesn't like  dinosaurs/giant monsters? There are lots of similarities between the pokemon and the MH franchises when you think about it.

A more fleshed out (or less grindy) single player- One of the advantages pokemon has above MH. I hope MH4 at least head in that direction.

Release a demo with four player support(local)-  a quick way to have the 3ds audience see the value/fun of team-work when taking down a giant monster together. 1 area and one tough monster, everyone who owns a 3ds has access to it.

A Monster Hunter Cartoon- Gotta Hunt 'em all! Gotta Hunt 'em all!

Release the game outside Japan- this to, in my opinion, is very important.

Once they get the pokemon audience on board(or a good portion), It could spread beyond that audience because of the more universal appeal of giant monsters.

(And yes I know "taking over the world" is a bit.. extreme, makes a cool title tough)

Release the game outside Japan XD.

I think that's definitely going to be the biggest hurdle at the moment.

I'm not sure what to think about Monster Hunter.  I was going to suggest that 'Monster Hunter Tri' could have been what would catapult Monster Hunter to the big leagues in the west, but it didn't.  I mean, the Wii was still selling relatively well when it released, biggest home console by some margin.  I seem to remember it being marketed a fair bit too.  But it just didn't get the sales.

What that was down to, though, I'm not quite sure.  The online interface of the Wii isn't the most friendly, so maybe that held quite a few people back?  Maybe the Japanese are right and Monster Hunter is just better on portable systems than home consoles?

I don't know.  MH4 could definitely be a turning point for the west if it gets released, but even then I'm just not sure it's the game that NA/Europe wants.

Was online confirmed for MH4?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

im sold, this is amazing...
just take my money Capcom and Nintendo...:)

We don't know much really, we don't even have an exact date yet. Japan shouldn't have online(might actually hurt the franchise if they include it in that region). For the west(if localised) maybe.

Well, I don't know about that, but I think it'll be moderately successful when it comes.

But maybe also, Nintendo will publish it, this time for real, like a proper Nintendo game. They should get rid of those useless blood splashes though for that to happen. Purists will complain... but eh, who cares. Change it to yellow flashes to indicate a hit or even green and say "monsters" bleed that color (I prefer the flash solution)

Done, you get a PEGI 12/ESRB 12 (or even 10+) and more sales.

I think 3G wasnt released in the west because was a port and the 3DS userbase was/is small, i think this game will definitely see a western release when the 3DS reaches around 30m...

The rating doesn't have much of an influence on sales. Anything below PEGI 18 won't really be looked at by salesmen, i.e. a 13 year old teenager can buy a PEGI 16 game without any problems.

On topic: Pokémon and Monster Hunter aren't even close to being the same thing.

Yeah, but to be viewed as Nintendo game is another thing.

Never since the Zelda 1-second blood splash -later changed - blood has been featured in the west right? Even in japan is pretty rare. I don't think Nintendo published any game from other developer with blood too, at least with that "splashness". Point is, it's ugly... and useless.

A lot of the Pokemon Fans are children, it's a largely known thing. I don't think slaying dragons is a good thing for children. It might be able to get the older Pokemon Audience though. Which isn't as big but is still there.

I don't see it happening though.

You have to be joking. The older pokemon audience is still huge lol, just because they stop watching the horrendous repetitive anime, doesnt mean they wont be fans of the game series.

I know alot of adults who still love playing Pokemon games because of nostalgia, familiar like characters, and the genre being a major point: RPG.

I said that it isn't as big as the Child Audience... I never said it wasn't big...

Children = BIGGGGGG Adults/18+ = Big.
