Forums - Sony Discussion - Resistance 1 vs Resistance 2 - Graphics

Killzone2 and Resistance2 will both look amazing, but in sheer terms of complexity and ingame features, from ridiculous hitpoint detection to amazingly detailed environments and A.I. ..Killzone2 will be better in every way. There is to much effort put into killzone2 and every aspect of gameplay within the universe for it to be outdone by any fps coming out, that's just the deal.

BUT, this game will be GREAT in everyway...I had maybe 1 or 2 complaints about Resistance1, but all I wanted was maybe a different health system, it's lookin good.

Looks good, although it's true those two pictures make a pretty bad comparison.

How good a reputation does the developer have with delivering accurate screenshots (ie. not photoshopped)? Their list of titles includes some pretty big names, but I'm unfortunately rather unfamiliar with their past.

I've never seen Insomniac push anything other that what the game will look like.  Also I've never known them to mention features they didn't deliver.

They're a really nice developer in my opionion, produce good games on a regular basis and rarely say anything stupid.

For example they simply stated how the engine from RFOM had been improved for R&C and everything was factual - increase in fps, increase in on-screen level of detail, etc.

They've already stated that RFOM 2 will represent another leap and I see no reason to doubt them.

I'm not sure why Killzone 2 would suddenly be seen as crap now that Resistance 2 has surfaced, but I'm still interested in seeing how Killzone 2 turns out.

Resistance freaked the shit out of me lol, i dont know if that is normal but i found that stage where you go into the place where they are made scared me a little :p

For me Insomniac certainly has shown the most impressive 3rd party performance as a company for next-gen systems so far.

Insomniac is 2nd party.

With regard to Killzone 1, I read the game mainly suffered from technical limitations and issues, many reviewers stated this game aimed too high for the PS2. This and other criticism judging from the demonstration videos have been dealt with and the basic concept greatly imporved upon, Killzone 2 has become a much MUCH larger project than the first title was.

I guess thats true if you look at Killzone as an average game that was dragged down to horrid by technical issues.

Anyway, you should probably wait until we have some real screens to compare; scans are almost always deceiving. Personally, I really don't like the change in design for the Chimera. They went from something a bit different, especially with the exposed skin and piping, to a pretty straightforward ho-hum design.

The biggest problem with RFOM graphically was how bad the texture filtering was. Close up most of the textures looked fantastic, but get a few feet away and all detail is lost as things turn into a blurry, almost PS2 like mess. That game would've looked miles better with some decent filtering to preserve the details over distance. Oh, and they went a little wacky with some of the shaders - such as wood and concrete that reflected light like metal.

The second clearly looks batter ... look at the facial animation ... those teeths looks as real as they get :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I actually like the new Chimera. They went from standard run of the mill alieMs, to evil looking bounty hunters with personalities..stylish!

I'm lovin the black, very slimming...

Here is a bunch more screenshots...they are poor quality scans though.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

 Facial animation?

Its a still frame, how can you see any facial animation?

Wow that CG cutscene looks way better than that in game shot.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
