Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The $99 Xbox 360 On Sale Now at Best Buy, GameStop

Microsoft's creative deal for a discounted Xbox 360 and Kinect goes on sale today at two major game retailers, but will the smaller price tag bring Microsoft some big bucks?

XBLA's Major Nelson announced on his official blog that Best Buy and GameSpot are now selling the discounted Xbox 360 bundle. The offer is also available at the Microsoft Store.

The bundle comes with an Xbox 360 console and a Kinect for a significantly lower price at $99, a set that would normally cost around $300. However, it requires the customer to sign a two-year contract to XBLA with a gold membership at $14.99 a month. The membership alone would cost just under $360 for the full two years.

i would never get into a monthly fee deal for a system. my phone, internet and TV is enough as it bloody is.

So if all the next-gen consoles were only to launch with a subsciption plan, you wouldn't get any of them?

Theoretically off course, as we all know that won't happen.

I wonder how Microsoft's little experiment is going to play out.

hm interesting question.

well the past 2 gens (since i was old enough to know what was going on in gaming) i have owned PS2, Xbox & Gamecube and this Gen PS3, 360 & Wii...

if they where all sub only i would sure as HELL only get 1 and stick with it. plus game prices would have to become App store prices if i have to pay monthly.

what would you do?

I read this kicked off, however, I did not find it on Best Buy or Gamestop's websites.

Basically exactly the same thing, I've own(ed) N64/PS1 Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 PS3/Wii/360, but if the industry went a subscription plan only I'd definitely only get one console, due to the monthly price-tag (No way I will have the spare cash to justify paying subs for 3 consoles at once).

Game prices would also have to get cheaper, I agree.

I wonder if they'll be forced into offering a hardware upgrade option once the successor is released. Can't imagine too many happy people once the new console releases half way into their contract.

I think during the holiday we're going to see a ton of people taking advantage of this deal.

That's one heck of a "deal"

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.
