Forums - Gaming Discussion - Worst Gaming Inventions & Innovations in Recent Years

Let's compile a list!

-Digital distribution that takes away all property rights (mostly the right to resell, transfer)

-Always Online DRM

-DLC, especially nickel and dime DLC for stuff removed from the main game (or purpously left out) in order to milk us

-Region-Locked HANDHELD (3DS) to maximize profits by selling games for higher prices in certain regions; no imports of unlocalized games; no buying games when taking your 3DS on vacation to different regions

Please feel free to contribute more; we can hold a vote later.

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

Around the Network

Condensing manuals down to nothing.

Matchmaking

It isn't exactly new nor is it bad per se, but it's used today almost always this gen while server lists are rarely used. Does anyone here actually believe matchmaking is superior to server lists? If so, you don't deserve to live (my opinion)

Kinect

Ah yes, and the worst kind of DLC: Store specific pre-order DLC, meaning there is no way of getting it elsewhere later on (you can't even buy if from someone else who got it, because like with digitally distributed games, you can't transfer ownership).

Vitality Sensor... Didn't sell too much...

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I'll go with motion controls outside of Wii, and 3D.

Yeah matchmaking isn't the best, but running dedicated servers 24/7 a'int cheap. The only publishers using dedicated servers for console games right now are Sony (just for Warhawk and Starhawk) and EA.
