The way I see it, as long as the proper precautions are taken, ANY sex act can be enjoyable and clean. I, for one, am a fan of anal play not just with my female partners, but myself as well. I know the ins and outs to cleaning yourself for that kind of thing and, much as it may be psychologically gross, physically it's not much different than the mouth or vagina. Besides, as a guy who happens to enjoy the sensations myself, I'm quite sure females can get pleasure from it, too (read: duh, of course they can), and sometimes it's not about you. When you love someone, you make compromises for them, and if the lady likes alternatives, then go wild, just make sure to take proper precautions first.

also, I know you're just expressing your dislike with it, and as such it's an opionion, but "it's disgusting" doesn't come across as "I don;t like it", it comes across as "it's despicable and i judge all those who do it." Not saying that's what you meant, but to someone who happens to enjoy it, the word usage certainly makes it seem judgemental.

anyway, just make sure to educate yourself. If you still don't wanna do it, I certainly won't tell you how to enjoy your sex life, but when it comes to pleasure, you gotta keep an open mind, you never know what you'll like. hell, some people I know get off to the taboo of it, they LIKE that it makes them feel dirty, even though the sensations themselves do nothing for them.

So going back to the ass, even with the proper knowledge of what to do now, as someone pointed out earlier, I still wouldn't give a chick anal. I didn't like it and there would always be that little fear of her pooing on me again. Not to mention the smell...

There is a normal gaping, and an abnormal gaping. 

A normal gaping is caused by the anal sex itself, a penis, dildo, or finger stretches the anus open and with prolonged stretching and relaxed muscles, it'll retain that opening, however the anus returns to a relatively normal condition shortly after sex.    The physical changes of anal sex do tend to go away over time in the absence of it, though some changes are retained.  However, the anus no longer retains its original shape after prolonged or repeated anal sex. 

Abnormal gaping comes from purposefully stretching the anus to accommodate larger objects, such as a hand/arm, extra large dildo/butt plug, or other objects.  There are serious medical concerns with gaping.  The biggest issue with gaping comes from what happens to the bowels themselves.  Besides a host of things that can damage the lining causing infections, there is the problem of hemorrhoids, and rectal prolapse. 

The latter can actually also happen with hemorrhoids,  however gaping can have the same effect.   Which is, over time the rectum is pushed out of the anus.  The problem with stretching the anus and rectum beyond what is normal, is that in time the ligaments and muscles of the anus and rectum weaken, causing the rectal prolapse.

Most people who enjoy anal sex do not get into gaping.  There are enough short-term changes that occur to the anus with normal anal sex, such as less control of the bowels, that they don't desire the effects of having the rectum outside of the pelvic cavity.  It ain't pretty and it ain't clean.

The only thing disgusting is people who only like having sex in missionary position with a woman laying on her back.
