Forums - Gaming Discussion - Another form of proof that GameTrailers is not neutral

Gamespot does/did the exact same thing. Incredibly lame if you ask me, if one console has higher and/or better output in some cases, that should of course be let into play!

Well ... To bring this discussion back to reality ...

The thing the GameTrailers (and all comparison) videos point out is the same thing that I have noticed in real life; the difference between the graphics of the XBox 360 and PS3 is small and you probably won't notice any difference unless you're looking at the games side-to-side. Personally, I don't notice much of a difference between my XBox 360 hooked up by component displaying 1080i and my brother's PS3 which is hooked up through HDMI and displaying 720p (I believe).

Alot of people are saying that it's good that they keep them the way they are out the box, and not optimizing them to their best settings.

Thing is though, technically, the PS3s standard setting are only over composite cables, which means only 480p, whereas 360 comes with component, so it's HD, standard-out-of-the-box whch they seem to put so much emphasis on. So that's definately not fair. Also, what's wrong with putting both systems on HDMI? As long as the means by which the signal is being output to the tv are equal, then I see no problem in them putting the PS3 and 360 on HDMI. But then, due to optimization settings, it would show the PS3 would have better gfx.....are they afraid to show that?

They are not afraid to show it. They can't show it. You can't record HDMI output. Try to keep up.

If they cant show best graphics on both consoles why even display it? The PS3 with HDMI out and full-RGB looks better than the 360. I have both consoles, I know. So Gametrailers' comparison shots are worthless.

gametrailers

We create them so that people who own both systems can be a little more informed on which version to buy.

Isn't there three systems lol, or maybe I'm missing the point.

hell, the PS3 doesn't even come with an HDMI cable, if i recall, it only comes with composite doesn't it? So its a completely fair comparison.

Ok, have to call you out for total fanboy craziness here :p

The PS3 doesn't come with a display device, so we should not compare visuals.

The PS3 doesn't come with speakers, so we should not compare audio.

The PS3 does not come with two contolers, so we should never compare multiplayer games.

Come on... buy a 5 dollar cable and get over it.

No, the PS3 coming with the standard cables is in fact shit. They advertise it as the big HD machine that displays in beautiful HD power, they use their snake in the grass technique to sneak BluRay into your home, and you're not telling me you're not upset you had to buy cables for your system?

I can understand not putting HDMI cables in the box, but not even putting component cables in the box is shit.

I needed a 14 foot HDMI cable. Whatever they would have provided, I would have thrown away (Just like I did with the 360).

And they did not "sneak" BluRay into the system, it was plastered all over the damn thing :). Thank god for it too, I use it as a BR player 4 times a week.

I don't get all the hate. If you don't like it becuse it cost to much for what you get, then wait until it cost less and stop bitching about it. I mean, if you can drop $400-$600 dollars on a gamming system, and another 2-3k on a Audio/Video system to take advantge of it, who gives a shits ass about a 5 dollar cable?

I think everyone who bitches about it is a 360 fanboy who just uses it as another arguing point, it's not a reality that anyone who bought a PS3 cares.

Oh and @azrm2k

I don't care about the stupid comparison videos. I have stated that in this post already. They are meaningless. I wasn't saying that the PS3 is being slighted because of not using HDMI.

Wow, so since you would need a new cable that means everyone else would too?  Awesome.

Notice that I didn't say I wanted an HDMI cable included, I just wanted your basic cheap component cable that would at least let me see my HD machine in HD.  Most people would be grateful not to spend another $40-100 on cables after buying a $400-600 toy.

As for the BluRay comment you completely missed the point.  By sneaking in, I meant forcing us to pay for it so BluRay could win the format war.

And wait to call everyone who doesn't like the PS3 a biased fanboy.

Alcrist needs to tone down the massive sig

I'd also like to point out that gamersyde has the same "problem" with their comparison videos, which are almost always far more extensive than GT.

The video comparisons on these sites suck, i play on a SDTV and my games look better then what they show on their site, i have played around with the settings and i get a great picture.

In one of the threads on GT a poster took blown up pics of the video and from what he and a bunch of others said it looks like the PS3 video is being taken from a bigger source and downgraded so the quality is even worse, this is very clear in the pic he showed compared to the 360 version.

One of the posters also showed some pics of the PS3 with full RGB on and off, here on the pics.

On: http://super.gameshot.net/ps3/zboard/data2/ps3_snap/DSC_1235.jpg

EDIT: One other thing that proves that GT is run by a bunch of retards, they said you need a $5000 computer to run Crysis, after weeks of trying to fix their computer.

WOW. +100.

I though DMC4 had a better bump and textures on x360, BUT now i see, it`s jus because of RGB. Nice Job!

Yeah. I, for one, don't like the PS3, but I'm all for getting a 360, and I currently am a huge DS/Wii/PC gamer (in that order).

I believe that means that I am not, in fact, a biased fanboy.

And I totally agree - if you're going to advertise your system as a major HD system, then sell it as a major HD system. Meaning - have it packaged so you can use it as HD straight from the box, no extras necessary.

Although, I think the reason they didn't package any extras in would be because everybody (see: 100%) buying a PS3 will have a TV that is composite-ready. However, not quite that high a percentage actually have component-ready TVs. As a result, to keep everybody happy, they'd have to package in both. So, they decided to go the cheaper route and make sure at least everybody will be able to at least use their system.

Even though component-cables are super cheap and most people wouldn't mind purchasing those separately if they really had to.

Or they could have done what MS did and put all three cables in with the Elite, component and composite in the Pro, and just composite in the Arcade.

I spent $600 on the PS3; a few cables to hook it up to my HDTV would have been nice. After all, it would have run Sony maybe $10 for all of them at bulk pricing.
