Forums - Sales Discussion - What Wii overlooked...

Can someone, anyone explain after all of this Wii hardware sale stuff, that the best selling third party game has sold less than COD4 on the PS3? I just dont understand what people do with their Wii's after they are done. My little brother got a Wii for Christmas, we had fun for about a week, and now hes back to playing that Maple Story game.

Is Wii software worth anything at all, or has pure hype and "Wii-" games and Mario put so much wind in the Wii's sales (there is a pun there) that it just sells uncontrollably? I mean if you are cheering for Nintendo I can see why you are excited. But everyone else in the gaming community has to be going WTF right now.

I dont think any third party developers will hop on board the Wii with half an effort. No matter how deep or amazing a story you create, it will never matter unless the game begins with Wii, or has Mario in it. If it does meet those low standards, as you can see with Mario & Sonic, it will be elevated past all other third party games that are actually worth driving to the store for.

After thinking about all of this, does the Wii even matter? I mean the only thing that can keep the Wii from becoming a fad is Nintendo themselves, because nothing worthwhile other than Mario games will ever be on the Wii, as it looks right now. And this of course is only in reference to REAL games, as im sure after Wii Fit is done we will have Wii-Shopping, Wii-Taxes, Wii-Graffiti and any other game that comes to mind that they can milk to get money.

So, its seems were two or three huge AAA third party flop away from the Wii being referred to as a "nintendo-platform" instead of a "gaming platform", at which point developers will realise that the Wii is nothing more than a cool gadget and not something you play games on. Third party will shy away from it completely by 2009, and it may continue selling, or it may not. But its affect on REAL gaming won't be noticeable at all.  Im sure pretty of people will be in better shape though, fitness wise.

(And really, Im only posting this nonsense (and it really is a load of poop) because I see 5-6 different Sony bashing post a day. If not that, every positive piece of FACTUAL PS3 news gets flooded by Nintendo fans. So, I just want to point out that the Wii is, as it appears right now, nothing more than a Mario world with a few fitness and sports games. Of course there will be a few kids who say " NO ITS NOT ITS MORE THAN THAT!" Where? Show me. Because I sure as hell dont see it.)

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

The answer is simple: it's the first year of a Nintendo console. Nintendo games always sell best on Nintendo consoles over all others, especially in the first year. Nobody who's spotted past trends of Nintendo products is going "WTF?" at this. At worst, they're saying "Not again...". Don't judge any game system by its first year, as the first year is never indicative of its future. The second year is also a bit dodgy for that purpose. The third year gives the first real glimpse of a system's fate. Patience.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

.... better put your flame retardent on... your post sucked....

did you consider the fact that no 3rd part has put a major effort into Wii yet? Like CoD4 or AC... GHIII is selling better than on PS3 and similiar to 360... cant think of any other 3rd party efforts.... unless I count RE4 REMAKE which sold as much as AC PS3...

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

And to complete Sky Render's post I'll add that the last year of a console lifetime usually tells how well the system was doing.

End of 2008 (31 dec.) prediction :

Wii : 53.5 Million

PS3 : 24 Million

X360 : 27 Million

Prediction started January 1st 2008.

dude, who the hell judges a game system on it's first year??? are you on something???

look at ps3 and 360's first years. it's making their first years look weak compared to them! their first year was more like 360's second year with half the games!!!

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

True Genius

Not as good as Rol's threads, but I'll give you a 6 for the effort. I must admit I grinned when I read that third parties shy away from the Wii in 2009.

The best selling 3rd party game, Sega's Mario & Sonic sold 2.45 million on the Wii.

Third party publishers are similar to animals that run in a herd ...

Most Third Party publishers allocate resources in proportion to the software marketshare of the system, which is (in turn) allocated to projects in proportion to genres that have performed well on the system. They're not going to give up a large segment of the software market, and a large piece of that segment, because Nintendo isn't "playing fair" ...
