Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo holding back Wii U information? Black Ops 2 a launch title?

badgenome & happydolphin, can both of you start your own thread sometime about nintendo & the core audience, so you can both write your manifestos. This forum is about Nintendo specifically holding back information about certain key launch titles for the Wii U. It's not about your treatise & deep beliefs about Nintendo & the "core" gamer. Please address the specific topic at hand; if there are ket titles like Black Ops2 or Madden for the wii U launch, then why is Nintendo withholding information?

2D Mario at launch is not a core thing anymore?

In my time it was the symbol of coreness :(

They should really take those damn colors off. And give mario some finishing moves after he stomps a goomba.

My theory is this, I recently read an interview with Iwata and he said that Japanese game industry are suffering right now, lack of blockbusters, lack of hype, poor sales, so seeing how Nintendo is a Japanese Company, they will hold back their best and most exciting announcements for the Tokyo Game Show this Sept, making this once important convention in the video game game industry, relevant again, so hopefully they will announce these games and also "Injustice, Gods among us"

I could see the logic in that, maybe revealing more about nintendo network at TGS as well.

I think microsoft payed ea and activision to only talk about cod on thier platforms.I mean i found it weird how on the sony conference they showed a trailer for ass creed on the vita and then talked about cod on vita but just showed a picture...we all know it's cod and ea is gonna be on it either way so whateves

I actually like this theory. Microsoft might know the 360 would be hurt badly once people know that most 3rd party games will be available (and better) on wii U. Let's be honest, Microsoft doesn't have much original IP besides Halo, so once the 3rd party games are better elsewhere, the 360 sales will be hurt severely.

The TGS is for the japanese audience, so if you thought that heavy-hitting western games will be announced there, for any case other than COD (which is actually quite big in Japan), you'll be dissappoint.

Many of the big american games will be there for the WiiU, but Nintendo is trying to surprise us. However, that's a big mistake when many people are looking with intent at their E3 performance. Sadly, hobbyists use conferences and hype to get them onboard for consoles, and let anti sentiments linger. I'm not for it, but that's how they are.

Nintendo seeking that audience needs to be sensitive to things like that, and yes they withheld info on the WiiU and it was a mistake.

Cheers

Game Trailers editor-in-chief Shane Satterfield came under heavy criticism when he said before E3 that the Wii U launch line-up was “looking pretty damn good”. Satterfield later took to Twitter and stated that the Wii U game that sparked that comment was pulled from the show by Nintendo.

Yes !! Nintendo is playing war strategy well

Very interesting. Nintendo definitely seems to be playing an unusual strategy with their announcements so far.

Your whole hypothesis here is wrong. Real "hobbyists", and i'm assuming you mean "video game players", will buy a new console if it looks promising at launch, not if it looks promising at the e3 press conference. Real "hobbyists" read reviews, try it out, and then make up their own mind. They don't make up their mind based on a press conference.

I'm not saying what is right or wrong, I'm just describing the state of affairs as I understand it.

When you get out of your little "Nintendo fondling" bubble, you'll actually understand what I'm trying to say.

If these hobbyists are on foreign systems like Playstation and Xbox, and if Nintendo doesn't shake them up when it matters most (E3 conferences), these buyers have little reason to turn their heads when reviews appear.

Proof: I posted a review of ZombiU in this thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=143986&page=1# (which I linked to earlier but you probably didn't bother to read it). Look at how they payed attention to it. They didn't!

It's possible that Microsoft had some sort of exclusivity on showing COD at E3. I don't know why else Sony would have only shown a logo for Black Ops Vita, although after their Wonderbook presentation, I suspect they might just have been on crack. However, since we're being honest: there is no way in hell COD Wii U will be better than the Xbox version. If for no other reasons, then because the largest player base by far will always be on Xbox Live, and because you will have to pry timed exclusive DLC from Microsoft's cold, dead hands.
