omfg read what i wrote (both posts). i said there are some important games like gt but if you count them out and count only games except the number of exclusives microsoft has as well with halo as example you won't have many who own the rest of sony ip's. which means most don't need them. it's pretty simple.

43 million. That's the total no. of games sold by Sony this gen that is not God of war, Uncharted, GT. Excluding the really unpopular games, of course.

Is that really small? I don't think so.

that is not even one game per playstation owner, exactly like i said. so how can these games together be important for most gamers? they aren't, most don't care about them, there will be maybe 10 million playstation owners who really care about these games but 50 million or so won't.

So you are saying that 43 million of game sales are just worthless.

Uncharted overall sales : 15 million or so

God of war : 8 million or so (PS3)

GT : 13 million or so (PS3)

Total : 36-37 million.

Let me just end this by saying I disagree heavily with you.

I just dont know what we're arguing about. Some people say MS has more studios then Sony, may be true but those studios still have not made any game and a user is already predicting them to be as good as Sucker Punch.

The studios that made games that defined the 360 are no longer working exclusive to Microsoft. Sony on the other hand has nothing to lose, every 3rd party dev they worked with last gen is multiplatform. Thats why Sony built a strong emphasis on 1st and 2nd party studios. We can see the fruits of this effort already in this gen. Sony built quality studios this gen like Mediamolecule and Sucker Punch. The existing studios got better: Santa Monica Studios and Naughty Gods have both been split into 2 teams. These 2 studios will work on 4 AAA exclusives at a time. Last gen many PS2 exclusives were from 3rd parties. Having lost them Sony focused on their own studios.

Maybe Microsoft is in the same transformation. Whatever they're planning we will only see their effort in the 2nd gen games of their Nextbox.

i don't say the sales are worthless, i say most who own a ps3 don't buy the small ip's so if they are there or not, they would still purchase the same games they do with these games on the market. most people i know personally own one or more uncharted or little big planet or gt and plenty of multi-plat games. most people i know who own a xbox 360 have plenty of multi-plat games and halo and/or a gears and fable. almost none of them really owns other sony or microsoft ip's. i don't believe they really needed them to decide to purchase one or the other console.

and why do you count gow from ps2 and psp for ps3? it's like i would count banjo kazooie for 360...(which i can't because it's digital but still a bought game for some)

so all i want to say is, for most console owners, the reason to purchase a 360 or ps3 wasn't the number of smaller ip's because they dont care about them or they would like to play them but know they will never because of too less time.

i see it btw extremely different for nintendo. i would say for most who own a nintendo console are almost only nintendo games important.

Most people who buy consoles don't look at the library as much as they look at the free online aspect of PS3 or their friends having a 360. That's not a good metric to decide why new IPs are not that important.

edit: or the smaller IPs.

next gen is not even out yet and its already guaranteed a 2nd place...

so you gave the answer now by yourself. most people who buy a console don't look as much at the library. and most who buy a console and look a little bit at the library buy only the big ip's and multi-plats or even only multi-plats. maybe they even bought one game of a small ip but if they would have had this one game or not, would that really change the importance of the console for them or wouldn't they have had the same fun with the console without this one game? for people who buy infamous and some other smaller ip's these games might be important but for most they aren't. for most, multi-plats and a few big ip's are enough. they don't care if they buy a ps3 or 360 to play videogames if they see that most games they want to play are on both consoles and most exclusive ips they want to play (the big ones) are split between both consoles.

i played small ip's on both consoles and i had fun. but if i wouldn't have had them i wouldn't have had much less fun with the consoles. i would have played maybe few more multi-plats like castelvania then which i didn't play because of lack of time. i don't believe they would have been less good as the small ips i played and i bet i would have had the same fun. so yeah, i played them but i didn't have to and they are absolutely no reason to buy a console to have more fun with my hobby. but at least i played some, most consle owners did never play them.

I knew it from the start. This thread would not turn out good.
