Forums - Gaming Discussion - What real 'next gen' is there actually in the Wii U...?!

No.  Ubisoft said that wii u could do 1080p but with no AA.

They said that wii u could do 720p with 4 AA

what gen something his has nothing to do with tech

Whatever happens, can we please at least all agree that, once the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox 720 are all released, the collective term for the three consoles is not "next-gen", but "current gen"?

It bugged the hell out of me that, as late as 2009, people were still calling the PS3 and 360 "next-gen consoles".

"Next generation" videogame consoles haven't really had groundbreaking graphics as a part of the definition for at least 10 years. The DS, and certainly the Wii, both successfully proved this trend was broken a long time ago.

Another example where a trend was similarly broken: It used to be that people considered bits as a defining point; until that trend was broken too. No one in their right mind would argue that the N64 and Atari Jaguar were a generation ahead of the PSX.

Technically, when a company releases a new console at platform, it is next generation hardware; as in, the generation that succeeds the last generation. For example, Schwarzenegger's kids aren't even as powerful as he is, but they're still the next generation.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I still see it happen, although I assume these people just have a poor understanding of English, or are of lower intelligence.

Since the 3DS and Vita were announced, I've noticed a significant decline, and even more since the Wii U was announced. Since I'm not sure about exactly when the decline in usage started, I chose a time when I'm confident it was still in full force.

I think anyone who still uses it must necessarily be of lower intelligence, since if PS3 and 360 are "next-gen", how do you refer to the Vita, or to PS4 or Xbox 720 (even if you stupidly believe that the Wii U doesn't classify)? Is there really anybody out there who would refer to those systems as "next-next-gen", now?

The worst offenders are those that still call the PS3 and the 360 "next-gen" but at the same time refuse to call the Wii-U next-gen.

1080p, graphics of Xbox360/Ps3 ports of AC3 already seem to have a slight bit of improvement in graphics where Pikmin 3 looks clearly better than any Ps3/Xbox360 titles and is a launch title, networking and gameplay have next-gen elements too

it's many ''not-quite'' next gen elements combined actually

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

That. An impressive metaphor it is.
