Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Riccitiello: Mass Effect 3 “single best piece of software” for Wii U

I've only played one Bioware game (Sonic Chronicles) and I fail to see why they are so highly regarded for their RPGs. I can honestly say that it is by far the worst RPG I have ever played. It's really annoying how Tails reminds you every fucking 2 or 3 minutes to save, irritating me every time. The Battle system was like someone trying to emulate the gameplay of Oueden/EBA, but losing all the fun involved. The story was mainly just a collection of fetch quests, and not even interesting ones at that. Being able to control the game using the d-pad would've been nice as well.

I'm all for giving developers a second chance, but I don't really want to play another Bioware game to be honest. I bought it as I loved RPGs, it got glowing reviews from ONM and n-rev (93% and 90% respectively, which is utter bullshit) and because lots of people I know talk about how fantastic Bioware and their games are. I never want to make such a mistake again.

I have a slightly different approach to this issue, but with equally unflattering a conclusion towards EA.
Besides their Sports games and Need For Speed, which have always been multiplatform and not indicative of tremendous support towards any certain system, it appears they have too little to offer.

There is Battlefield 3, Medal of Honor, Dead Space and Mass Effect. The only other option is SWTOR which I think we can all agree would be a ridiculous business move to offer on a console at launch. MMOs require constant support which is expected to go on for years, and even us Nintendo fans can't say for sure right now that the Wii U will be able to hold a dedicated user base for such a game.

With those four remaining games in mind, I sincerely believe Mass Effect to be the franchise with the most Universal Appeal. The fact that EA's most widely regarded series of recent years can be properly appreciated only on one console just goes to show what a clusterf@#k of a move it was to hand over exclusivity to MS for the first game. I don't care how much money they paid for it, such a move has long term negative business ramifications which are hard to quantify.

I think we can agree that if Black Ops II is coming to Wii U in the launch window, there is no guarantee for major success with MOH or BF3, and that leaves us with Dead Space as the only remaining option. It's possible EA would do better with DS3, but it's also equally possible they won't be able to offer the game to Wii U owners within the first 6 months after launch (current release date for 360 is February 2013..).

So once again, EA is left with nothing. Not only that, they are losing serious ground to 2K in the baskeball department across all platforms (2K13 is a launch game for Wii U) and their only compelling IP I can think of that is coming out anywhere in the near future is Overstrike.

Bottom line, EA is a badly managed company when it comes to IP. 90% of their annual releases are taken for granted, and the remaining 10% are either crippled in some way or another or too late to the party.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Funny thing is he's right, ME3 got the loudest applause from all the third party titles shown.

EA should release the trilogy to Wii U

They cant release the trilogy on Wii U, because MS has 1 locked down, we've known that for a while. Not sure what happened to part 2

The sad thing is he's actually right.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Yeah, I know. Even EA some two or three years ago said ME1 would never come to PS3; I think it's in the same messy IP situation as Rare's IPs are.

Serious question: Is this game worth? I'm interested.

Well, a large chunk of the fun comes from seeing how things you set in motion a game or two ago wound up, so you won't get that. And you'll need to drastically lower your expectations AND completely suspend your disbelief for the final ten minutes or so. But if you overlook those two things, yeah, it's a pretty good game.

Well, thanks!

Agreed. You won't get the nastalgia of porting in your info from the last two games, but even then ME3 is a great game. The story is very good and though a lot of things will be lost in translation, you will probably enjoy it. The gameplay is the best in the series, the action is great. Also if you haven't played the first two games, the likelyhood that the ending will disapoint you will be slim. AKA the ending is better than what you get in most games, but wasn't as customisesd as some would have liked after playing three games.

In other words, If I were you, get it.
