Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U framerate drops to 30fps if using a second GamePad

Saw this over on Gaf

In a follow-up, Nintendo Japan has posted on Twitter that there's a price to pay if two Gamepads are active. Frame rates drop to about 30 fps if two are active; any games that really want that extra controller won't be quite as glass-smooth. On the upside, it's possible to switch one off with a smooth transition; there won't be a need for theatrics just to switch to a solo game.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

WiiU keeps on getting worse. Nintendo dropped the ball here.

Is this response serious?

Just wondering given that most games this gen have 30fps in 1 player.

Won't most games run at 30 FPS anyway lol?

not a problem, those games just drop to 15 FPS...

It may be related to the wireless bandwidth and nothing to do with graphical proccesing power. Are those 30/60 fps on the wiiu gamepad or in the main screen?

When did FPS become hard coded? I thought it was entirely dependent on how the system resources were uses. Couldn't they just cut the polygon count down or use less texture effects  and raise the FPS 120 then cut that in half to 60 for each controller?

Though, most of the negative posters in this thread are typical doomsayers from other console sections. They jump on any negative news full support and never look for any other possibilities or details.

"Most" of the doomsayers? I see one who said Nintendo dropped the ball.

Tis called a prediction my friend It is occuringl, it just happening in another thread, the one you posted I believe.

I don't really see how this can be argued as a bad thing.

Most games these days run at (or struggle to run at) 30fps. Nothing at all wrong with it dropping to 30fps.

If it means games running at 30fps will drop to say, 15fps. THEN we have the problem.

Mario Kart Wii looked horrible from 2 players to 3, it will be an issue in those types of games.
