Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot for next gen, repeat of Wii all over again

I just finished watching Nintendo's E3 and I have to say Nintendo really dropped the ball.  There launching there new console this holiday and they didn't bring anything very different that we already knew. The graphics look to be on par with the PS3/X360 and it's more then likely going to be at a higehr price. They needed to announced some specs/price and actual release date now to get people excited which they didn't.

Now all hope is not lost, there still is TGS, but usually E3 is reserved for there biggest games.  Only time can tell, there is less then six month to release and the Wii U is looking identical to the Wii. Nice little innovate controller, ports of existing game franchises, and a ton of Mario games. It's a shame nothing has really change for them this gen, but I kind of understand since the Wii did sell a lot, I'm just skeptical there going to be able to pull it off after people seeing all third party support went to Microsft and Sony.

So just a recap, Nintendo basically is coming out with a Wii2, which they shouldn't of because of how the Wii ended it's gen, so many people moved over to X360 or PS3 and left the Wii's gather dust, they should of came up with an entirely new concept. Something to attract third party. Now Nintendo Land...just looks like a bad version of Home, they didn't even upgrade the Mii characters, they looked awful.

But anything can happen, no one thought the Wii was going to sell anything and look what it did, only time will tell, I'm just dissapointed.

don't know much about power, looked like fun family games, shitty ass presentations, Iwata videos are better, Ubisoft crushed everybody else. It's basically another family console, which is not a bad thing, but a lot of wasted graphical power for sure.

Nintendo is in bad shape.. people already have Kinect they wont buy Wii U.

Well at least E3 2006 Nintendo was amazing...they showed the Wii & it was adored by many at E3 that year. The concept was appreciated!

With WiiU most people were bored...

At least Wii started strong, I fear WiiU may not start that strong.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I guess Pachter was right all along. Nintendo just released the Wii HD, only 3 years late to the party.

I have never felt so disappointed about a NEW console, a NEW console. Thats what gets me so excited but the Wii U is shaping up to be so meh. I don't know if anyone else got the buzz you get with a brand new gen and console with the Wii U.

despite all the negatives, I still like the controller, I mean, as a PC gamer, I still have a Wii, so power is obviously not an issue for me when it comes to consoles.

So far E3 in general has been disappointing, but the Wii U does show some promise. It just seems like a bloated Wii with new controllers tacked on and slightly better graphics...nothing to wow over, but ya never know...there is more than enough capability to do something awesome with it. Let's hope they don't repeat the same mistakes they did with the Wii and actually use the systems capabilities to appeal to a broad audience.

-- Nothing is nicer than seeing your PS3 on an HDTV through an HDMI cable for the first time.

You can say whatever you want, it won't stop people buying it because of the concept and the games. What Nintendo messed up with Wii was the momentum, the lineup. They didn't have much coming over the years. That's the only thing they should focus on, and I can tell I'm pleasantly surprised of the big lineup incoming. Games sell machines.

Anyone else think that the addition of a second touch screen controller and the potential extra RAM and resources that takes up may have lead to the rumors about devs complaining of a lack of power?

Developing for a set amount of RAM only to have that suddenly taken away because of the need for a new controller would probably irk some of them.

But I still think the console has a lot of potential. Just look at what Ubisoft are doing with it, lol.

Nintendo really have, Nintendo wants to get hardcore gamers? They need Madden, FIFA, CoD Black Ops 2 AND ROCKSTAR.

Batman, Assassin's Creed 3 and ME3 are good starts, but Batman doesn't look that much different than the others versions. AC 3 will be just as good, but you've already got a system to play it on as that is were the previous titles are. ME3 is good, but in such a story driven game, they'll be lucky to beat ME2's PS3 sales :/

Nintendo Land too, I thought Nintendo didn't like the childish image? I'm sorry, but most guys between 12-18 are going to shun that in an instant :/

(And Call Me Maybe IS NOT going to get the crowd going!!!!)

Finally :P, 3rd Parties? Yeah, if your only talking about Warner Brothers and Ubisoft :/
