Forums - PC Discussion - I don't think my laptop can run Amnesia :(

Like I stated in the title; I don't think my laptop can run Amnesia and I really want to play this game.

Before people start telling me I need this type of graphic cards, etc. I don't do any PC gaming at all (beside the occasional flash game) and I only just downloaded steam today for the Humble Bundle deal. Every time I try to launch the game it says, " Fatal error! Can not be initialized. Make sure your graphics cards are up to date. Check log file for more info." I'm not sure how to check any of that. My laptop is a Inspiron N4010 and I'm not sure what it can and cannot play.

Someone please help!

Seems like that laptop has integrated graphics and Amnesia does not support some of those.

These are the system requirements. I think most of the other things should be good other than video card.

OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor: 2.0Ghz - Low budget CPUs such as Celeron or Duron needs to be at about twice the CPU speed
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 3GB
Graphics: Radeon X1000/GF 6 - Integrated graphics and very low budget cards might not work.

Not sure about the error you are getting but bumping the thread so pc experts can answer. Am new to pc gaming after well 10 years so not sure about that.

Thanks for the help. Just a few of questions:

1. Would I be able to install a new graphics card in my laptop?
2. If I can what would the price range be?
3. Would I have to install it myself(don't know how) or can I get someone else to do?

check out this thread on steam.

also is this your ap top?
http://www.pcworld.com/product/552981/dell_inspiron_14r_model_n4010.html?p=specs

if so it has a Mobility Radeon HD 5470 which i think is ok for this game. not 100% sure on lap top cards though.

Also do you know how to update your driver for the graphic card?

1.NO, not unless it's a very expensive laptop, ones that you can remove/replace GFX card are rare

2. see #1

3. see #1 + if it is possible (which is unlikely) you'd have to dissasemble the whole laptop (search for your laptops dissasembly manual in google)

Alright thanks everyone for the help. All I had to do was update my driver for the graphics card. I got the game to run, but it's kinda laggy and I think I need to buy a mouse lol.

Lower the games gfx settings, stop everything from starting in msconfig apart from security software and see if that also helps.

Must not play this freaky deaky game with a trackpad. What if you get stuck. I am sure you'll be stuck anyways hehe. Run it at the lowest settings to get a smooth framerate i assume. Enjoy.
