Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS thread

Ridley Scott's potential  sci-fi masterpiece is about to land! This movie has almost everything to become a huge hit (both critically and commercially):

- All-star cast which includes Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron, BAFTA-nominated actress Noomi Rapace as well as Golden Globe-nominated actors Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce.

- Acclaimed director in face of Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down) with passion to introduce something new to the stagnated Alien franchise with screenwriters Damon Lindelof (The Lost) and Jon Spaihts as well as original Alien producers David Giller and Walter Hill (The Warriors).

- Good-old original designes by H. R. Giger and some completely fresh ones from him (several gorgeous murals, according to Ridey Scott).

- Native-3D filming using Red One Epic cameras and mindblowing visual effects from Peter Jackson's WETA Digital on IMAX screens around the world.

- MPAA's R-rating.

Let's wait the last few days and finally see this movie! And then discuss it here.

And about response:

As for evening of 30th of May (read "initial reaction") this film holds green (generally favorable) 63 Metascore based on 4 reviews and 89% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 9 reviews (just one negative review). Initial response is pretty positive and, what is important and interesting, this movie is gonna be the first RT Fresh movie from Alien franchise in 25 years in line with Alien and Aliens. I will update this data when the dust settles.

I know 89% is a great number, but considering how a lot of mundane blockbusters in recent years always starts off with 90+ (Thor, Fast Five), 89 for a movie supposedly out to save the Sci-fi genre is a bit of a disappointment.

How a movie like Avengers and Mission Impossible 4 have retained their high RT score is beyond me. Either critics are smoking something, early reviews are harsh or this movie isn't as perfect as it was ment to be.

I hope its just a case of Alien fans not seeing much xeno action.

This has came out at a very bad time in terms of box office. It will underperform commercially...mark my words. I hope it does well though, Ridley Scott is awesome!

Box Office Mojo are predicting $395m for its total worldwide gross.

ohhh its actually filmed in 3D too. Nice. Finally another movie that might actually look good in 3D.

So far the reviews I've seen have ranged from positive to a bit mixed, but this looks too damn good to pass up. I mean come on, it's Ridley Scott's first time at the helm of a Sci-Fi film since Blade Runner fer cryin' out loud!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Only a week and a half to go.... *Runs to rewatch the Alien series over again to prepare*

"...stagnated Alien franchise...". Nope, it's not stagnating. It should have ended after Aliens.

Prometheus is a redundant movie. It could still be good scifi movie though. Just like 2010: The Year We Make Contact and Alien 3. Both are redundant, but I like them.

If it's filmed in 3D does that mean I won't be able to go see it in 2D? 'cos if so that sucks.
