Why would Square hand off its series to a developer who has produced lower reviewed and fewer sales?

they've sort of done it before.

Maybe they'd want to move on and try something new while making money off of old IP idk like Naughty Dog. They've always done it with dragon quest even when it was enix (I believe they were only a publishing house and never actually developed anything).

So in a sense they already do it. Tri-Ace (Star Ocean), Level 5 (Dragon Quest, except the new one). Even FFXIII-2 was partially developed by tri-ace.

But to mistwalker... I don't think's gonna happen, for the reasons you listed, plus the sakaguchi dynamic. You'd first have to see SE publish a mistwalker game I think and build their relationship. But probably not.

Xcuse me? tri-Ace is the original creators and developers of  Star Ocean. Also Armor project has developed every DQ they just use other developers as grunts.

they don't own the IP. SE does. I never claimed they didn't develop/create SO. But it's always been an enix owned IP, unless I'm wrong enix did this for every IP they owned.

Armor Project is not SE either, it's Yuji Horii's production company which has an exclusive deal with SE.

@Marteds - I agree, but to me it feels like all of Mistwalker games or soo much better than the SE ones. When Sakaguchi left SE, it just wasn't Square anymore....the Enix part stayed the same.

@SnakeDrake - lol, Soon I"m gonna make a thread about Square and how big of hypocrits they are when it comes to their games and sony.....but that's for another thread.....and another time.

@noname2200 - I see the box witht he quote in it, but I can't type anything in it....it's annoying. I thought javascript was off, bt I checked it's on.....unless if I'm missing something else.

@ishiki - I'm not saying that Mistawalker should make their games....they should OWN their games now. They're just bombing crap left rigth and center, lol. Ok maybe mot that badly, lol.

@outlawauron - They got a lower review because people are biassed. They hear the name Final fatnasy and they give them and 8.5 if it's a crap game. Seriously has ANYBODY played Lost Odyssey. I loved that game. As a man I'll admit that it made me cry.....I love games that make you emotionnal, like Xenoblade, FF6, FF5 and FF4(Palom and Porom sacrifice :'( ) to name a few. SQ hasn't done that to me in.....well I can't remember other than The World Ends With You. Also it has fewer sales cause most people don't know about their awesome quality. Basically Mistawalker IS Squaresoft......pre FF7.

jack100 you enjoy Mistwalker games more than Square Enix games doesn't mean alot of people feel that way too. Alot people have enjoyed Square Enix recent titles they developed this generation and before when Sakagunchi left/fired from Square Enix. I'm not telling you wrong about enjoying Mistwalker titles more than Square Enix, but you might be a minority with that opinion. I haved played Lost Odssey to 100 percent completion and brought the DLC too. I enjoyed almost everything about LO except for the underwater portion of the game.

I'm not saying SE has done great job either (except for the eidos part which I think has)... but I don't think mistwalker has fared much better in consistency  Especially compared to like atlus which sort of of has been the best the past 5 - 6 years imo. LO is great, but that's one game for me. I've liked atleast 1/3rd of SE games I've played this gen, and that's how much of mistwalkers games I've liked.

The Last Story & Lost Odyssey are a lot better than Final Fantasy XIII or XIII-2. And I actually liked Final Fantasy XIII.

I've never heard of Mistwalker :S

@ishiki - I"m sure Tri-ace has always made the Star ocean games and Enix has published them. Not sure thoguh I just remmeber the tri-ace part always, lol.

@Marteds - Sakaguchi left squaresoft when it went into into financial ruin after spirit's within.......which I liked, lol. Enix was the reason that they're still afloat.

@ishiki = Mistwalker has like 9 games out in total, lol.

@namdo - I agree with LO, I haven't played Last Story yet, but the reviews are promising and I can't wait for it to get my hands on it.

@Harrybarry - Thus the reason why it get's low reviews and sales whereas the quality if SOOOOO MUCH BETTER than SE has given. The owner of the studio (I'[m sure he's the owner) is the father and the HEART of Final Fantasy.......and other GREAT SquareSOFT not squareENIX. Just saying that the Square games since the takeover suck, lol.

Square hasn't made a DQ in house in well over a decade. They've switched developers multiple times.

Tri-Ace's participation in XIII-2 isn't very noteworthy either. Studios assist in development all the time, and there wasn't some special case with XIII-2.

@crissindahouse - nope, an a Windows 7 PC......I might have somethign disabled......maybe I need to update flash or silver light....or whatever it uses.

@outlawauron - It seems the developer of all the numbered DG games Yuji Horii, have his own company Armor Project. The only reason they outsource it I guess is because Yuji Horii wants to outsource it and doesn't want Square to touch his beloved franshise........that second pat is just a guess.
