Why is Eternal Darkness on that list?

Eternal Darkness is the property of Silicon Knights, who aren't even associated with Nintendo anymore, so how the hell is Retro rumored to be working on ED 2? lol.

As for Retro... they really need to step their game up. In 10 years they've released just 4 games, all based on Nintendo IPs. For comparison, in just half that time, Rare released nearly a dozen titles on the N64 alone. Now obviously the development cycle is much longer nowadays, but if the Wii U is going to recapture the core market, Nintendo needs more new and exclusive games than just their current stable of IPs.

From 3:45 onwards: All rights, including copyrights... bla, bla, bla... reserved by Nintendo.

And how many of Rare's games were published by Nintendo?  Yet you don't see Banjo, PD or Conker on the Virtual Console, do you??  Hell, one of their own PROPERTIES in DK64 is not on the VC.

Besides, everyone always asks Dennis Dyack and Silicon Knights about the possibility of ED2, of which Dennis has been hinting at for several years now. Nobody ever asks Nintendo if they're going to do ED2.

PD, Banjo and Conker are not owned by Nintendo.

DKCs were made by Rare and they are on VC, but  many N64 games weren't released on VC.

ED is Nintendo's, whether you want, or not..........

I am confident Retro can actually remake Link to the Past and/or Majora's Mask; otherwise, Zelda rightfully belongs to Nintendo. They should continue with the DK series and revive the Star Fox to the recognition it once had, as well as F-Zero. Metroid should be shelved for now.

Most importantly, I'd love to see a new IP from them as that will be the testament of how talented they are as a developer.

I´d guess it´s a new IP.

I think Metroid will be in the fridge for some time.

as much as i'm dying to see another eternal darkness but i also want retro to create their own IP

According to a pretty big german Nintendo magazine Eternal Darkness 2 will be developed by Silicon Knights and be shown this E3. They've been pretty confident for months now (saying that SK "strongly hinted" at it) and in the latest issue they had the game in their "E3 news" section - basically saying it will be shown, not stating it as a rumor. They flat out wrote "Silicon Knights will show Eternal Darkness 2 at E3 for Wii U". So in that case ED2 is out of the question for Retro.

The Starfox / Metroid Crossover doesn't make sense and neither does F-Zero (Sega made the last one and I doubt Nintendo would hire Retro to develop it since it doesn't have any sort of mass market appeal).

So that leaves us with Metroid, Donkey Kong or Starfox. Sales would suggest a Donkey Kong game but Metroid has a higher reputation among core gamers and Nintendo wants to make sure their console gets accepted by the core. Yeah I have no idea haha

^Well, if Eternal Darkness is out of the question (I still have my doubts) then I'd prefer them to go with a new IP, something with action and adventure as they have shown to handle those points very well.

A new third person adventure game would be perfect!

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I have my doubts as well but they sound confident... The first time they mentioned it I was pretty indifferent and thought they just made it up or were speculating. But some months later they claimed "we are (almost) sure Eternal Darkness 2 will be revealed" and said a Silicon Knights dev hinted at it in an interview ("I'm looking forward to show it to you") and that the trademark was renewed together with Luigi's Mansion. And this month they flat out stated "it will be shown" together with other pieces of news that have been confirmed. Take this with a grain of salt but they'll definitely need to apologize for spouting nonesense if the game isn't there.

Speaking of Eternal Darkness, the Retro making ED2 rumor DID mention the trademark getting renewed, and they wouldn't renew it for nothing. One big hole in the rumor is why SK of all devs would be making a game for Nintendo. They imploded after Too Human, and layed off a lot of staff. They seem to be going throuugh hard times, but E3 is les than two weeks away, so we'll know soon enough.
