wait, people actually think Microsoft is going to be bringing something to the table at E3? the only big announcement they've made for the platform in the last two years was Halo 4....and that'll be big, but it won't be a super mega seller.

I would go out on a limb and say that Battle Royale will push more consoles than Xbox 360...Battle Royale is new to the HD consoles, whereas all halo fans already have 360s.

If Halo 4 isn't a "super mega seller" then what is?

I mean it's not gonna be pushing consoles.  the game will easily break 10 million sold, but I can't see it having a mega huge impact on console sales, as it's a fair assumption that all halo fans already have a 360 (what with 3, reach, ODST, and Wars)

Same was said with Reach/MW2 &MW3, the LE bundles sell like hotcakes, especially if they're super nice. A shift of at least 150-250k consoles at the least most likely.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Interesting. I wasn't expecting PS3 to be in the lead like this. I wonder how E3 announcements will change things. Price cuts? Market apathy after new console announcements? or just business as usual?

Why not? It was the same last year

360 seemed to have more momentum at the end of last year that I expected would carry over to the start of this year. Then there's also the fact that the 360 is cheaper than PS3.

Keep in mind that Vgchartz hasn't adjusted the PS3 down yet. It looks to be near 500k overtracked so if they do adjust it accordingly the gap will be closer to 400k.

Weren't PS3 sales recently adjusted recently? I swear the gap between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 suddenly got bigger.

Great idea, and kudos for taking over Seece's thread.

This year will be too close to tell, E3 might make things a bit clearer, but it's going to be a close one. It all boils down to how many units Halo 4 can shift.

The last major adjustment we had was due to Nintendo's and Microsofts quarterly numbers. I believe the 360 was adjusted up around 500k and the PS3 adjusted up 150k.

Yeah I believe this year is going to be very close as well. It's anyones game at this point. I'm guessing that the PS3 will be slightly ahead by the end of the year or it will be a tie.

Ahh, OK, 500k overtracked is quite big, especially after a recent adjustment.

Can't wait for E3, maybe that will give us more of an idea.

I think PS3 can maintain the lead again this year.
-Last year 360 had a Gears 3 bundle, this year it had Kinect Star Wars which didn't really boost it past PS3.
-Last year 360 had a MW3 bundle, this year it has Halo 4 bundle. The HW boost should be very similar.
-Last year the Kinect effect was still pretty strong, this year it's not.
-360 slim momentum was also present last year.

It is 2012 and the 360 has nothing refreshing, it has no momentum going for it like it did in 2011. It would take a price cut for it to have a chance to surpass the PS3 this year. Oh and we also got Wii U coming out. Who knows how that will affect PS360 holiday sales.

It would be a fair comparison of "momentum" if you include what Ps3 had last year and is not present this year as well. Not just the 360s.

PS3 didn't really have any momentum like the 360 did. We all know how PS Move sold so mentioning that is irrelevant.

You're forgetting that the PS3 had a price cut in all territories last year. Now I could be missing something but googling Xbox 360 price cut then followed by various years seems to indicate that the 360 didn't have a price cut in 2010 or 2011. Although please correct me if I'm wrong. All I'm finding are things like the arcade being replaced by the 4gb S at the same price.

Basically the 360 is VERY overdue for a price cut and I expect MS will want to do one before the Wii U launches. Whereas for the PS3 I don't think a price drop is on the cards this year. They had one last year and they are going to be trying to offset losses on the Vita.

I would say this year the PS3 will sell more unless MS has a price drop. If they get a good price drop by around September time I think they could take it.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

now was not the ps3 doing better at the bigining of last year, and was not the 360 the best selling console of last year due to big black friday ,last year gears helped, but halo 4 is bigger then gears 3,if halo 3 can sell near 12million units, then well this year will be a happy year for xbox in the fall and this year, only thing that will affect this is if wiiu launches before halo4

If the 360 has a price cut I think it will win based on holiday sales.

PS. I'm one of the people that thinks the 360 really won last year as well.  If it ships more this year it will really bring into the question the claim that PS3 won 2011 & 2012 (if the same thing happens at the end of this year that happened at the end of 2011).

Based on which data? We only know the PS3 has been overtracked in '12, everything else... Everyehere else, seems fine?

A price cut could really help out PS3 sales. It is currently the most expensive console out of the three.

The PS3 is the most expensive console out of the 3 because it costs the most to produce, i don't see why sony should cut the Price of the PS3 unless the unit cost with the introduction of a new superslim is less than the $200 magical barrier everyone wants. With their current financials they should be happy to sell 12million consoles all at a profit than 14-15million all at a $10-20 loss. Also i doubt a 360 price cut (Unless its the kinect bundle massively discounted) would lead to any meaninfull increase in sales ouside the USA, as despite what some people on here may believe USA doesn't =The world. Also i only think Halo 4 will only sell 8.5million lifetime with it being this late in the cycle and with COD Black ops 2 releasing 3 days later.

Really? I'd be willing to be that Halo 4 will reach 8.5 million by Jan 1, 2014 (AKA about 1 year, 2 months after release)

I think with the current downtrend in software sales with many games posting really dissapointing sales and the fact Halo 4 comes out only 3 days before BLOPS then some previous halo fans will instead buy BLOPS. Its unlikely that people would buy two heavily multiplayer games only 3 days apart, so i think the bulk of that prediction comes from the lower first week sales.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

massive amounts of deals is not momentum

Great thread, tagged!

I'm looking forward to see how both consoles will perform after the Wii U launch.
