it does'nt matter,as long as people keep buying.

Yup, why waste money on stuff that won't get you more sales?

I still think that CoD looks mighty impressive given its 60FPS, and at this stage in the generation, I would wait for next gen before a new engine, it just isn't worth it for yearly games

I completely agree that they should wait for the next generation at this point, but I disagree with your other points. The Black Ops II reveal trailer left a lot to be desired for me. When you have games like Battlefield 3 and MoH Warfighter pushing fantastic new technology, BO2 just looks bland and old.

It doesn't matter financially though. BO2 will sell more than BF3 and MoH:W combined, and Activision will save themselves from truly growing stale by developing a new engine for next gen.

But it runs at 60FPS on consoles! On PC it is miles behind the curve, but on consoles not so much. Yes, it doesn't look so good, but I am more interested in things like 4 player splitscreen than just out and out graphics.

Also, i tend to not really judge graphics until the game is running on my console, I can never really tell until I am actually playing it

New engines and more power aren't just about graphics, though. It's about gameplay evolving, physics, etc.I feel as though the series needs to do itself a favor and evolve into something more than it currently is. The yearly CoD games feel more like expansions to the base game.

Well this is why BLOPS 2 is actually quite interesting, with the RTS elements and potentially more involving story, but we shall see

But I am not really sure what you can do with CoD beyond shooting people, the games do a decent job of keeping it fresh within each story, but they can't do much about quite a tired genre that just happens to sell loads

yes because the people who play cod dont care about a games quality all they want is multiplayer will kill streaks.

if only they saw the light

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Well DICE has added Vehicles, environment destruction, varied classes and weapons with supporting actions outside of killing (healing, repairing, squad spawn placements, etc) all of which are things many other FPS titles pick up here and there, all of which COD has zero of. There are many other ways to branch out and evolve shooters as well.

RTS Elements? I must have missed something... What are these?

Well let's at least hope they'll use the engine a little better than it was used in MW3, which looked horrible espacially compared to Battlefield 3. The first Black Ops was the best looking COD imho, so I do expect them to come up with some graphics in the end.

The biggest challenge they face is to improve the free-falling gameplay quality : Black Ops was bad, MW3 disastrous.

Too late in console lifetime now but should have been developed for previous titles. Just doesnt impress me anymore.

Whatever you say, Treyarch. Whatever you say.

CoD isn't about vehicles, but other classes maybe and yes

RTS elements are for the something ops... missions (I can't remember the name), where you control a squad and drones to clear an area. You can just control a guy, or you can control the drones or just switch between. i am now sure how RTS like it will be, but it seems interesting

Engine is not the problem. Bigger concern is that they should the game better for pc/ps3. By the time Black Ops was running well. The new one was due to be announced in few weeks.
