Forums - Sony - Analyst: Sony selling 10 million Vitas in FY13 a “stretch”

VG247

RW Baird’s Colin Sebastian has said Sony selling 10 million units of PlayStation Vita worldwide in fiscal 2013 is a “stretch” unless a price-cut is factored into its guidance.

“10 million looks like a stretch goal at this point. Perhaps there is a price cut baked into that guidance later in the year, or Sony believe that there are titles such as Call of Duty for Vita that will be meaningful platform drivers,” Sebastian told GI International.

The analyst added: “Vita is a great dedicated game device, but the market for those products continues to shrink as smart devices become better platforms for games.”

Sony announced last week it had sold 1.8 million units of PlayStation Vita worldwide following slow sales since its launch in Japan in December 2011 and its western release in February of this year.

600,000 Vitas were sold worldwide in March before the end of FY2012.

It predicted a combined 16 million sales for both Vita and PSP by the end of FY2013.

No sh*t.

I agree with him.

Depends on a price cut and what software is announced at E3. I'm not convinced Call of Duty will do wonders for the Vita or help them hit that target even with a price cut. Sony don't need cut down home console games or home console games that can be played on their portable; they need portable experiences and experiences that can only be provided on Vita to sell systems to early adopters and justify the system. That just hasn't happened yet, and those are the games they need to be announcing at E3.

It's a shame the Vita isn't selling well because it really is a slick device, but once they have a couple of hard hitting JRPGs and a better bundle in japan sales should really pick up there. As for Europe/America they kind of have to depend on the big names to help push sales this year.

I agree with him.
Right now the only big title available is Golden Abyss, and there's nothing on the horizon, probably just a Call of Duty, and I think it won't do a big difference, just a little (maybe steady) boost.
Obviously at this E3 Sony is going to announce something big for Vita, but the question is: When will big titles be available? It better be soon, really soon.

I think Call of Duty with stats carry over to console would be a HUGE seller other than that a mild success, a Gran Turismo or MGS vita game would be huge as well not for me in particular but I think they would be big system sellers. . The news on the vita Bioshock game was not good earlier, that was the game that had me most excited for a Vita.

Hmm, yup it's a stretch and a price cut confirmation at the same time.

Hopefully before august-septemer

Yeah right and Starhawk is going to sell a million units in it's first week right?
Sony you crack me up sometimes

Without order nothing can exist - without chaos nothing can evolve.
