What a charming guy!

he isnt charming because he sweats at a sales conference where he was firing up the troops?

I'd say this illustrates that he is a passionate guy that loves his complany and has taken them frm a garage business to one of the biggest corporations on the planet.  99.99999% of the people on this planet dont have his drive, ambition or success.

contrast that with execs that sit on their hands with sharp suits whilst their compnay dwindles...

I know who I'd rather have as a boss / co-owner.

Come on! He is supposed to be a CEO. How professional is it to run around a stage like a 8 year old filled with fizzy cola shouting "I LOVE THIS COMPANY", sweating and panting like a dog before he even does his speech (maybe he's going through his mid-life crisis). Do you have to do that to show passion? And Hirai get slated for Riiiiiiiiiigde racer lol. Talking about Hirai, he shows passion for Sony without running around like an idiot. He conducts himself in a professional manner which you would expect from a CEO.

Who would I choose. 8 year old trapped in a mans? no. That was an embaressment to MS and I bet he didn't do that again after getting a warning.

so much pompous bollocks.

The reason he "loves this company" is because he helped make "this company" from its very very early days. "this company" is him, he was the first business manager who went out and really sold and built Microsoft.

I too love my company, LOVE it... why?  because its mine, I made it, I built it... I know exactly where he is coming from...  you probably dont get that.

But if a lack of passion and fitted suits and slim ties floats your boat then great... I guess we disagree.

This is something that only an entrepreneur can see.

Pompous? OK?!?

Well it's not his company. Yes he's been there a long time but he was running around the stage like a idiot. Not even controlled passion. Just running and jumping. When he got to mic he couldn't talk because he was out of breathe with huge sweat patches. That was embarrassing to watch.

Ok show passion but come on. HE WAS RUNNING AROUND LIKE A CHILD. A GROWN MAN.

And yes I do own my own buisness. Might not be big. I'm a self employed electrician. You wouldn't catch me running and jumping around shouting "I JUST F-ING RE-WIRED THIS HOUSE, WOOOOOOOOO! I LOVE MY JOB"

Edit: But I want to make one thing clear though. I don't agree with forbes. Since 2000 when Ballmer took over, MS have got a lot stronger and profiting a lot more.

Developpers Developpers Developpers....

I agree with kowen, I'd rather have a passionate guy like him as my boss then a very skinny, serious guy with no sense of humor.

Not sure if I wanted to business with them type of guys tho.

um, that's a false dichotomy you have there. Nobody suggested that "very skinny, serious guy with no sense of humour" is better. Kaz Hirai has a great sense of humour I believe, and Miyamoto likes a laugh too.

I own a business,  it employs quite a number of people... I'd literally fight people who tried to take that away from me.  I love my business almost like a member of my family.  I care for the employees and am proud that i provide their families with a living.  That isnt to be taken lightly.

stuffed animals don't have families :D

And there's nothing wrong with that. Passion is good but that's not my argument.  also as I said in my edit in the previous post. I don't agree with forbes. Since 2000 MS have only got a lot stronger. I don't doubt Ballmer as a buisness guy but  I'm arguing over something different.

One of the richest peeps on the earth, who's been with the company from nearly the start and has been sucesfully leading the company for quite some time now.

I'd fucking do a joy dance on the stage, those investors and stock holders who make millions because of him, they're not going to mind.

which is why i said pompous much...  which may have been a bit strong and I apologise if so.

if, as you say, MS is doing well and he is a good CEO then who the hell cares how he acts at an employee event where it was a celebration of the business and a rallying cry to the troops.  So long as he knows his job, is good at it and is serious when required, then i say good luck to him.

Didn't say he was crap. It's embarrassing. Why do you think those Ballmer vids went viral? People find it funny. Some people probably see him as a joke because of this.

Same reason why people laugh at tom cruise on operah. It's not pompous my friend

You can't please everyone no matter how well you do.

Success is success and it is ultimately measured by what is in going into the bank account at any given time.

It makes perfect sense for MS to "be cautious" with tablets and netbooks and react as slowly as possibe to this market.
I can't recall the exact figures but they make a pittance from a netbook, tablet or phone OS compared to a full Windows OS.

In 2009 into 2010 laptops sales were rocketing as they started to replace desktop PCs.
In 2011 netbook and tablet sales were beginning to bite into laptop sales.
2012 into 13 is predicted to be the reign of the tablet.

The "problems" facing MS in the tablet and phone market are:

1) Android is open free source software. Manuafacturers love that. They have to pay for MS software.

2) Apple collects on software and hardware. Hardware is what makes Apple rich. MS don't do integrated hardware.

Based on this Ballmer is doing the right thing IMO.
