Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's your worst game file loss story?

So my son just had a 30 min breakdown over a lost game file.

He went to save his brother's ZeldaTP game file and accidently saved it over his own file. He's been crying in his room blaming Nintendo, Zelda, and God for the last 30 mins. I tried to talk to him to relate to lost files, including a couple years ago when he accidently erased my over 50% complete SMG file, but it didn't work. He says he's now swearing off Zelda. I can't let that happen. btw, he's 8yrs old. I also told him that he could simply continue with his brother's file as they are pretty much at the same spot, but he wants his own work. I understand that as I don't let others play any parts of my game saves either.

Edit: ok, crisis adverted... he will play Zelda again. :) After a short nap, he came out of his room in a much better mood. We talked again and he will start again. Thank god, I thought I'd lost him for a second there.

What's your worst game file loss story?

Around the Network

I was at the end of Final Fantasy XII and my memory card got stolen...never did play the game again.

Never really had anything like that happen to me, but i was about to plat borderlands and then my save file got corrupt

Minecraft PC.

Hardcore mode. 200+ hours spent. FULLY ENCHANTED Diamond armor, with 900 diamonds mined.

Stood over a diamond ore, Mined it. And sure enough. lava....

Yay!!!

Friend of mine came over once and accidentally deleted every scrap of data on the two memory cards I had in my gamecube at the time (knew almost nothing about games). Lost my Animal Crossing save (had just gotten the golden statue at the time!), Sonic Adventure 2P Battle, Kirby Air Ride, and a couple others. Quite depressing at the time...

Hmm

So I have 35 GameCube games. Out of those games, I have one memory card for Animal Crossing, one for Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the last for the other 33 games. My brother left that last memory card on the floor after playing a game, and our dog chewed it up.

Suffice to say I wasn't very happy that night.

But it must be said that I did go back and complete all the games over the following years, and I had a blast doing so. So it wasn't all bad. ^_^

I took my Gamecube to a friend's place to play Phantasy Star Online. After we finished up, I stopped the game, chose to save, and the power cord got tripped on while saving. The savefile that had my data was over 250 hours worth of gameplay.

I had a file on Pokemon Gold where I had every legendary but Celebi, all main party members were leveled in the 60s to 70s, and had just defeated Trainer Red. I also had made it to what I think was the last level before Gruntilda in Banjo-Kazooie (It had a big tree and season-changing mechanic I think). Both games were saved over with new files by a young cousin.

Way back in the day, one of the Playstation magazines gave out a demo disc, that, when you played a certain demo, it would freeze and then proceed to delete...wait for it...your entire memory card.

I lost every single save file I had amassed over the PS2's lifetime, and I remember I was about 75% of my way through GTA: San Andreas when it happened.

I actually wasn't that pissed. I restarted GTA (eventually finished) and my mom got pissed at the mag and sent a letter in, so I got a free copy of Gran Turismo 3 out of the deal.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Let him skip 1-2 days of school to play the game, and tell him he can eat fries & burgers one of those nights.

Yes, I know how this sounds like parenting, but it could make him happy to play it again without really having any bad consequences on his life... Imo.

My worse game file loss? Mass Effect 2 on the most difficult setting while only needing to do the final mission... I think.
