The past few years have been terrible for Sony, and just last week Sony shares plummeted to a 30 year low. This is due to disappointing PS3 sales, huge losses in their TV business, a weak yen, and various other factors. What I want to know is, do you think Sony can ever be able to retake it's position as one of the world's largest companies? If so, how can they get there? The Sony brand name is still hugely powerful, and so I think it is not beyond the point of no return. I think they should move away from handheld gaming, and focus on making top of the range smartphones, because that is where the handheld gaming market is heading. Also, their TV business needs huge re-structuring in order for it to return to profitability. What do you think?

Sure it wasn't as bad for them but wasn't the same said for Nintendo?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

The question should be if they CAN.

Yes, I believe they can. I mean why not? They still have the money to do it (I think).

But Will they? Your like asking me what Sony is going to do in the future.

Yay!!!

They could do everything right next gen - don't count them out

don't know, don't care, if their next console for next gen don't cost $599.99 dollars, i am fine and it should do better than PS3.

No. Unless they show something that varies drastically from the usual trend - like the Wii was. But don't really expect something that innovative to make an appearance again. They'll probably just have to share the market with MS and Nintendo now, such domination that was found in PS and PS2 is highly unlikely. And that's just in gaming.

Overall, I think the company has sunk too far to be able to return to it's original form, there are many more brands that are better or at least on par with Sony now, and consumers are slightly wiser when purchasing products, so just the brand power can't keep attracting them

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I believe so. If they were smart, they would trim down a lot of the excess and develop some kind of partnership with Google or another big player.
Sony just needs to figure out how to be "cool" again. MS was able to come back from 'uncool'. Sony needs to take some notes on how they did it.

Unless they become willing to chop of entire devisions to became agile again, no. And to be honest, even then probably not, it's a lot easier to lose your spot than it is to retake it, and by now other companies have established their dominance in Sony's interest markets.

They'll likely survive, they'll just never be top dog again.

They can, but there are some major things that they need to do. They need to shut down everything except PlayStation, Sony music, and Sony pictures. Also their next console has to be more like the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, not very expensive, and have good first and third party support. They should exit the hanheld gaming market, but should NOT focus on smartphones. Apple has been gaining too much control over the smartphone market, and there is no way Sony could compete with them. Also the success of the 3DS clearly shows that the handheld gaming market is not moving to smartphones, they are 2 different things.

I think the problem is that thier gaming division doesn't really offer something completely different than microsoft plus a lot of games that made sony what it is are now multiplats with mgs,ff,crash, etc
