Persona 3 is a safe bet. You'll get your money's worth easily. Then when P4G comes out, you can enjoy that one too, although you don't need to play P3 to understand P4. but yeah

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the PS2 version called P3: FES contains a 30 hour epilogue which P3P doesn't have I believe. Not sure what P3P has over FES...

If you have to pick one persona I would take persona 3 ...
the other 2 arent bad either, but I think p3 is better.

Ys does to an extent as it's the same character, but each game is basically a self contained story. Persona is more FF like.

I've already got the Final Fantasy games and Tactics Ogre, not really bothered for Jeanne d'Arc but I don't even think it's on the UK PSN anyway

Yeh you'd have to switch accounts to get it, it's a lengthy process but it is possible.
