Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Trophy/Achievement system on the Wii U. Will Nintendo do it?

Will Nintendo add trophies/achievements to Wii U?

Yes, Nintendo will give in. 52 33.77%

No, Nintendo will keep th... 17 11.04%

Nintendo will come up wit... 68 44.16%

Don't know... 13 8.44%

Other (please explain). 4 2.60%

Total:154

It seems likely Nintendo will do something like this eventually, whether at Wii U launch I don't know.

Ultimately it would have to be a much better system than the current achievements/trophies on the HD twins for me to care though, ie there would actually have to be some tangible reward for collecting them other than an online ego booster (perhaps unlockable mini games related to the games in question)

you know, i just don't know how trophies became popular. Let alone relevant enough to make a post about it. . Showing someone "hey i did this random thing!" just doesn't really excite me even a little bit. Unless the achievment unlocks something in the game DURING THE 1ST PLAYTHROUGH, i just don't understand the fascination behind it.

My money's on no.

Trophies and achievements may seem pointless (and ultimately, they are), however one cannot deny their strong social and psychological aspect.

Many players team up and work together to meet some goals and earn them. Many others feel challenged by their friends scores and will pursue them, trying to achieve more trophies/gamerscore, or at least get theirs to a respectable level. This includes buying more games and dedicating more time to a single platform (can build brand loyalty on those unwilling to split scores on PS3 and 360, for example - one will buy all multiplat titles on a single console they gain trophies on). Also, many people have obsessive behaviors, become addicted, or hunt down those trophies just out of boredom.

Those who dislike the system can simply turn off notifications of trophy/achievement earned and play like it never existed. I see no harm in trophies and tend to believe it's a plus to gaming.

In Nintendo's shoes I would certainly join this bandwagon, however Nintendo is Nintendo and they seem to do whatever the hell they want (and it works for them anyway lol).

I would prefer an option to share your activity log with your friends

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

That's not really Nintendo's style imo

I don't like trophies and hope that Nintendo don't have an equivalent, however I do understand that they are important to many people.

The Wii U will most likely have their own achievement type thing with their own unique twist that Nintendo will put, and probably after the Wii U is release they will implement the same thing with the 3DS in a firmware update or something. It will be cool to implement the streetpass in the achievement somehow.

Kid Icarus uses it; you unlock pieces of a puzzle, and each one might unlock some sort of a reward. If they did that, and integrated it in with the virtual console, then I would actually care. Otherwise it is only a gimmick that immitates Microsoft (like what Sony did).

Right, i would approve of this system as well: the grid with each achievement unlocking the requisites for doing the surrounding achievements, and each achievement actually gives you something.

Considering that they are trying to cater to the Ps360 crowd... duh.
