VG Chartz then were more easier to maneuver to, and the simplistic pages were easier on the browser as well. I think the launch of this site coincided with around the start of the 7th gen which at the time brought a lot of strong personalities. Back then, there were a lot more productive debates and strong discussion on different gaming perspectives. At the time, there actually was a lot more things to talk about.
From what it seems to me, when the rules got a little more stricter (signatures, etc) and it feels like every time there were site changes or updates, we lose of couple of members. I remember one guy who had a signature about which game could save PS3 and every said game gets released, he crossed them out. It was actually funny.

The excitement all kinda died down also because we're near the end of this gen, and the new news are for next gen.

I bet once eighth gen starts, fanboys, debates about sales, games, new releases, and all the excitement will all come back. Old members may come back, new members will join in to give in their two cents. And spammers will all be there to rattle the cage.

@superchunk
Damn it. I just revived Gilgamesh's thread, too.

I guess making threads about the past is a good way to get some 'oldies' to post again haha.

About the excitement, like superchunk and PSwii60 said, hopefully it´s back in business as next gen consoles approach.

Another one is every year ioi was watched the F1 and he would like one guy and I think thesource liked another. Anyway at the time thesource was a site admin and ioi got pissed because his guy lost and anyone who liked the other guy would get a ban by ioi and in the end thesource ended up banning ioi. It happened a couple times both with pretty halarious.

Another time there was a thread and I forget who but maybe ioi banned all the mods on the site for the night for some reason lol

Nooo... ioi (aka the boss of this website) worked for the Mclaren F1 team before he worked fulltime on this site.. he was part of the losing Mclaren team in 2007 when Kimi Raikonnen from Ferrari finish ahead of the 2 mclaren drivers in the championship in the last race of the season while he was third in the standing for the championship.. the term "Kimi deserved to win" became an instant note to be banned from the site.. a mod saved us by banning ioi for a day..

the next year he was a part of the winning Mclaren f1 team and got drunk... and ended up banning people..

haha sounds like crazy times!!

No one talks about the games.

there's plenty of talking about games, perhaps you just don't get involved anyomre?

those are all either vs threads or news threads. before, we would talk about gameplay in games and ways to complete them. We would have a demons souls thread and talk about the game and no one would go in with a dumb remark. Threads like that dont exist anymore and the fanboyism is too strong with everyone. I dont get involved anymore because no one talks about the games. its all talk about random shit and vs threads with a hint of news.

Check this one out then: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=142010&page=1

At first they discuss how much xenoblades gonna sell, and later on they go on discussing the game, and which characters that are better etc...

I hope this thread makes a few old timers post more, but it seems like most of you vets aren't too interested to be honest =) for the most part all the vets talk about the good, old, fun times back when - but they don't try to change anything. This site is what is repeatedly posted on it, in a sense...

Hmm, all this got me thinking; am I the only member who has never changed his avatar? Not even once in almost five years.

That's kinda awesome actually =D

It's not so much the standards as it was that there were stronger personalities that made you take notice of them.  Presently everyone seems to tailor their threads and comments in order to say what they want, but be careful to not offend anyone.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think that everyone should go around being a jerkface, but they shouldn't be afraid to ruffle some feathers either.

Howcome you don't start any threads then? Lead the way so to speak... But don't you think those will come after e3? =)

It was awesome.. we had threads without spurgeonryan.. good times.. nowadays he is just everywhere...

This.

And we had more Dutchmen posting, but then we lost our third World Cup final and a lot of our fellow countrymen disappeared forever.

But we're going to win the EC, so all will  be well

Try to survive the group stage first :P

The only joker I know of left on this site would be D21.  He is about the only one on this site that can make me laugh.  Almost everyone else has a lame sense of humor.

Hmm, what about badgenome and amp316? D21 is a helluva funny guy though, you're absolutely right about that.

Yea, I forgot to mention a few others and I covered my ass by mentioning badgenome later.  Amp is alright but I view him as an old timer whose humor usually pleases the old and young.  He has made me laugh a few times but I view him more of a Jay Leno comedian than someone that can make me really laugh.

If I can't get a stoner like you to giggle, then I'm doing something wrong.  You must be into the higher brow stuff like Paulie Shore, Jack Black, and Bill and Ted.

By the way, I can't stand Jay Leno!  Please do not ever compare me to him ever again.

*Holds applause sign up over head*

Amp316, a good friend of the show, has been making reviews of Bond movies. Have seen this? Have you heard about this? Well I hope it will help him to "bond" with the community! *cue in drumroll and Kevin Eubanks fake laughing*
