Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the Wii-mote a reason to not buy a Wii?

I wasn't going to buy the Wii because of the controls, but then I saw it in action, thought it was cool and decided to get one after i got a PS3.

Then i got one as a gift. So... I would of bought it... eventually?

I love the Wii controls, I don't want to go back to using the old style controllers anymore

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Nintendo is really smart at utilizing the flexibility of the Wiimote, but not every developer is capable of doing it. For certain games, I would rather go back to the classic controller because repeatedly waving the Wiimote is tiring and somewhat unnecessary. Why not just hit a botton?

The accuracy of Wiimote can be a problem for some games in the future. Since I will use my Wii to play Nintendo games mostly, I am not too concerned about this issue. I can't wait to see how Nintendo figure out a way to play Mario Kart flawlessly with the Wiimote.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I bought the Wii purely on potential. I wasn't concerned about the controls.

I thought you liked the 4D gaming aspect of it the most, not the potential.

Well.. Near the mid-end of 2005, my heart was pretty much set on a Playstation 3.. when my friend told me about the Wii in February 2006.. i was won over, and by only one thing - the remote

Of course, E3 2006 was also a big part in finalizing my not wanting PS3, and finalizing my wanting the Wii

The 4d aspect is part of the potential. On second thought it wasn't only potential, I also bought it to get out of the gaming ghetto.

I only bought the Wii because I can't afford a PS3. I really wanted a PS3 but because I couldn't afford it I decided to hate on it instead. Nintendo FTW

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I bought the Wii for it's controls, because it provided a new experience just like how I'm about to buy a Nintendo DS this coming week.

Nintendo is taking a revolutionary step with their consoles configurations and I will follow them to the end.

I bought it because it intrigued me.... I have never followed with the popular trends because they are popular [playstation] which is why I had a GC. (luckily this time something I already planned to get then became popular)

If you want a full list of why I bought Wii I shall try to make one [relatively in importance order]

1. New intriguing philosophy on gaming [general "Wiiness" of it, which includes the idea of the remote]

2. Potential of the Wii remote.

3. It's Nintendo (games)

4. Price (still the most I've paid for a system though)

5. It's Nintendo (build quality/reliability)
-----
With the fortuitous ability of hindsight, I would also have added Wii Sports in there between 2. and 3. I am sure there are many people who are put off by the Wii remote. Most I would argue are just unwilling to try new things or resistant to change... though I will admit some probably wouldn't like Wii controls [once they are not whored out by third parties] even if they tried a wide variety of Wii games, prefarably for a few hours each.

I guess you'll be missing out on the best control scheme for many games, then.

Wiimote is good for some games but not otthers.  I'd rather have a light gun for RE:UC because the Wiimote there isn't as good as a mouse.
