Forums - General Discussion - Attention programmers! Support Light Table, a new kind of IDE

Light Table is a new kind of IDE that seeks support on Kickstarter.

It's being built around these core principles:

  • You should never have to look for documentation.
  • Files are not the best representation of code, just a convenient serialization.
  • Editors can be anywhere and show you anything - not just text.
  • Trying is encouraged - changes produce instantaneous results.
  • We can shine some light on related bits of code.

See this video for a quick demo of how these principles can be applied:

I like the idea, I have a (far) better one that I'm trying to get start-up capital for so I can't go into details

Best of luck with it. Anything that can help make programming more about writing code and less about finding documentation, printing messages for debugging and what not, is something I can support.

I agree! Seems very interesting, and a very cool idea. Lots of potential there.

Me? I'm still trying to master C++ >.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This would be a big feature for me, I spend a lot of time tinkering with variables.

Hehe, well, maybe programming in this IDE will make it easier to learn. As far as I can tell, it's going to be a great learning tool, though when (if ever) C++ will be supported in it is another question.
