Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U to have Android OS rumored

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but this is interesting http://www.droidgamers.com/index.php/game-news/hardware-a-devices/3649-rumor-the-wii-u-has-the-android-os-integrated-into-it

This technically wouldn't surprise me given that Nintendo actually developed an Operating System that Google now uses for research.

They have a closer relationship than most people realize.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Just what Nintendo needs. To pay Microsoft a fee for every Wii they sell

Interesting.

I suggested idea a while back in regards to Sony when they announced the Xperia Play. I figured that Sony with a game library that is actually smaller than their music and movie library would do well to branch out to Android as a store front and then utilize Android on their hardware for ease as well as instant treasure trove of applications and solid browers among other features. I was even sure Vita was built with Android at the core and Sony expansions. However, as time has gone by, its apparent that Vita is its own Sony OS... (for the worse in my opinion).

Nintendo doesn't have the catalog of non-gaming media so I don't see any type of Android expansion for them. However, having an Android base in their console would immediately solve any issues with network capabilities, social interaction, applications, and web use. Then on top of that, Nintendo could make a single application that would allow you expanded Nintendo socializing on ALL of your Android based devices, similar to Live on people's phones.

I like it if true. :) Would also allow me to forgo getting a GoogleTV product as I have planned.

*Wii U and this may not be related as it would depend on the alterations Nitnendo makes to the system. If they remove the key peices that allow MS to charge Android OEMs, they'd be in the clear.

Additionally, why do you think Motorola Mobility (now owned by Google) is hammering MS with licensing issues on base networking tech.... they are trying to get MS to cross license the base tech on both ends. MS stops forcing ridiculas fees for base obvious OS tech and Motorola/Google doesn't force the same on ridiculas base networking tech.

**At this point in time Motorola is an independent company.

If these companies could build around MS' patents than I am sure they would... Although I'm sure Amazon, Acer, and all of them love paying those fees. Motorola is suing MS because they are having a patent cold war. The whole industry seems to be part of it.

Edit: Ok, I didn't read what you wrote. Sorry I worked a long shift and didn't get much sleep

What does Microsoft have to do with this? Android is a Google OS.

OT: While a bit strange to see Nintendo going with a 3rd party software to use as an OS for their console, this could end with WiiU being capable of running Android games on the tablet, which would be a way to fight the menace of smartphone/tablet games.

I could also make the WiiU a more valuable proposition if, like also rumored, can also act as an e-book. Why buy a tablet when you can have the WiiU for less?

-Browse the net (if Wii can, WiiU will also be able to do it)

-Play the latest "Angry birds" game.

-Use it to read e-books.

-Able to play real Nintendo games.

It's not a bad idea, and it would also please the shareholders that keep asking them to develop for smartphones.

Please excuse my bad English.
