Well, I've already ripped the rumors to shreds myself.  I'm a tech head and the idea the Wii U is not even as powerful as the X360 or PS3 is just silly as hell.  To be blunt, it would be harder and cost more for the Wii U to less powerful than it would to be more powerful.

However, you referenced the Dreamcast on the basis that the Wii U isn't getting a game (specifically a game from EA as was the case with the Dreamcast) but as the list shows, it's getting games, lots of them and E3 hasn't even happened yet.

Are you a developer?
I know it sounds absurd, but so far apparently two devs have said the Wii U isn't as graphically as powerful. It isn't that silly a concept depending on the price of the pad. They may be sacrificing console power to keep the overall package price down.

But most of the games it's getting aren't going to help sell it as they are available on existing consoles...As I said why would an Xbox owner get a new console and, let's say Last Light, when he can just pick up Last Light for the 360?

No, but I am in the media and speak with developers.  The fact those 2 developers stayed anonymous while other developers have spoken outright (including Crytek themselves) with counterclaims doesn't give much weight to their case.   But I'll give you some generalities on why it's silly.

The Wii U CPU is based on either Power7 or Power A2 by IBM.   Even with reduced cores and clocks to keep heat down, they are much more powerful than CELL and Xenos.   To make them less powerful than either would require IBM to make expensive cuts to the chips.

The GPU is based on AMD's HD Radeon GPU's.  Now many people claim it's the R700 series (specifically the HD 4770).  But AMD has only noted it will use the most modern shaders and architecture which doesn't suggest the R700 series at all.    But, even if we stick to the R700 series, a lowly HD 4650 is much more powerful than either the RSX or Xenon.  Again, taking a modern GPU stripping it down to less than either of those GPU's makes very little sense economically.

Yes, many of the games announced so far are coming to the other consoles as well.  This is to be expected as E3 is yet to happen.  Exclusives will see an announcement there.   As for getting an X360 or PS3 owner to get a Wii U just for a game they can already get on their console?  That's not really the goal.  The point is existing Wii owners (that may also have an HD console) are likely to upgrade to a Wii U.  At that point, why wouldn't someone that owns any of the consoles get a game for the one that provides the most enjoyment?   Or it's to attract people that don't yet have any console.  And those looking to bolster their Wii U library.   If you have a PS3 and an X360, why get one game on one system and game on the other?  It happens all the time.  Why expect Wii U to be any different from that?

If those are the specs then the Wii U could be more powerful, and as you have said, should be more powerful.

Obviously it's a point neither one of us can prove, but I'd say that most exsiting Wii owners aren't going to upgrade to the Wii U.  I say this because from what I've seen (Yes, not a great source, but still...) wii owners tend to come in three varieties:
1)Nintendo fans - enjoy the franchises (mario etc)
2)Casual gamers
3)Families
The first people may upgrade to the Wii U but we must remember that the world is still in a really bad economic state - the UK has gone back into recession, joining Spain etc. The casual gamers probably won't upgrade because I suspect most of them already have a 360/PS3, and it doesn't make sense to by an entirely new console when a large volume of it's games already are playable on the one you own. Yes, some people have a 360 and PS3 but both those consoles have the advantage of a large back catalogue of exclusives: Halo 3, ODST, Reach, Gears 1-3, Forza, Fables etc/Killzone 2,3, God of War 3, Uncharted's etc.
The third group, families, won't buy the wii u because they are not interested in game releases or technical prowess. They bought the wii for family time/kill time and the wii will fulfill that role and a new console will not do it any better.
Also let's not forget Nintendo said they aren't good at making hardcore games, so will they put the potential extra power to good use in ways other then cart and side-scrollers? I like my graphics so I hope so, but it doesn't look like they have the expertise to do so.

Of course this is speculation, but that's what I think will happen. Possibly large sales to start and then it'll go 3DS and sales will plummet.

That's pretty weird considering this EA has been going multiplatform crazy. But they must have some reason for that. There must have been some sort of well thought decision to exclude the Wii U.

@TheShape31. It's a sign of Crytek not supporting the WiiU, but yeah you could see it as a sign of 3rd parties in general not supporting the Wii U I guess.

This isn't the first time, last time I heard it was Tomb Raider needing to use the special features of the padlet or some BS like that as a reason for not porting to the system.

Some devs I'll tell ya they can grab excuses from their asses.

Power is out of the question. Like I said, it has to be either "too much competition," within fall 2012 and Spring 2013 and or "online infrastructure." The waiting game.

if you don't think Wii U will be more powerful then the PS3, then you need help.  Like Viper said, you'd have to pay more money to make it weaker then the PS3/360, a lot more money. Plus, it's 1080p, while ps3/360 are 720p.  Also, all your so called "speculation" made my brain hurt. Families won't buy it because they have a Wii? Casuals won't buy it because they have last gen consoles? Last time I checked, Wii sold 100 million with Gamecube/ps2/xbox having sold like 300 million. Previous generations aren't going to hurt it's sales. And a new console won't "do it any better", excuse me, the Wii U is doing everything better. What are you 12? Do you not know how to think? Let me guess, when Ps4/720 comes around, you definitely will apply a completely different set of logic into accessing it's sales figures pre-launch, amirite?

A lot of Vgchartz speculations makes our head hurt like that too.

Then again...Valve’s Steam VS. EA’s Origin: Who Will Host Wii U’s Online Service?

Online portion is critical. Too many conspiracies to voice an opinion.

To that end, both Valve with their Steam service and EA with their Origin service, are now lobbying Nintendo, hoping that they will be selected to power the Wii U’s digital delivery platform. And reportedly Electronic Arts is “aggressively persuading Nintendo to go Origin-exclusive with Wii U’s online so they can gain a competitive advantage over Steam.”

Nintendo has reportedly stated, “Nintendo needs an opportunity to rebuild relationships with Western gamers because they feel that only a massive western company such as EA understands what is needed to make an online service attractive to western gamers.”

Is...is that confirmed as being more than just a rumour? I'm scared.

If I could ask Nintendo one thing right now, just one thing, it would be: NINTY WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN BED WITH ORIGIN?. Or something like that. That paragraph right up there has a potential for very big things on Nintendo's next platform, good and bad.

@happyd Noted Silly journalists.

Better graphics doesn't necessary means ìt has better hardware. It's the framerate that says more about the power of the hardware. The WiiU will have better framerates than the PS3/Xbox360...
