Forums - Gaming Discussion - Key staff members leave Square Enix, including Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s system menu director

Nova Crystallis

Some key staff members have departed Square Enix as of last year, according to a recent post on 2ch.

The list of staff includes:

Ryuji Ikeda – Dissidia Final Fantasy main programmer
Shouta Shimoda – Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy planning director (RPG elements)/Dissidia FF (AI tuning)
Takeshi Arakawa – Kingdom Hearts texture director/Dissidia FF supervising director/Final Fantasy Versus XIII graphic director (system menu)

What does this mean? Perhaps not too much if we’re only finding out about it now. Takeshi Awakawa was in charge of the system menus for FF Versus XIII, so hopefully not too much was impacted when he left the company. Either way, it’s sad to see these staff members go.

There hasn’t and likely won’t be any official statement from Square Enix on the matter.

People come and go from companies all the time. Square is so big these holes will be filled with new talent that will hopefully breath some fresh air into the stale atmosphere that has been suffocating the company.

Leaving a sinking ship? Do we have their twitter reasons of why they left? Do they have twitter in Japan? If not what is the social media equivalent?

Like I have said before, Square Enix has far too long focused on the Square half of the equation. Enix had some great IPs in the 1990s. Try and recreate those for a change. Maybe you can keep devs this way instead of losing them by endlessly tunnel vision focusing on the next Final Fantasy game.

People come and go all the time. These people were cogs, that obviously can be replaced

Lol. Has it been 5 years or 6 years since Versus was announced? Sony Enix's development time is simply ridiculous and irresponsible.

We see this all the time with big companies. I don't see why everyone in the gaming world make such a big deal out of this sort of thing.

its a tiny deal...........the fact that its a year later and we are hearing it now through a rumor proves that

Well SE is not the old SE anymore. Milking is their passion now. Unlike before when they always come up with something awesome but now not so much.
