I hope it's not that gimmicky... that would be a real shame.  I think Mario Bros. 4 or whatever will actually be a totally different game from anything in the "New" series of games.  IMHO.

Nevertheless...E3 is just going to be ridiculous this year.  Cannot wait.

I'm tempted as well! great games coming for it, and there's some great games out already! But I'm waiting for the redesign... I won't touch it unless it gets a second analog stick!

Yeah I kind of feel the same way.  Because I know as soon as I throw up my hands and go buy one, the next day Nintendo will announce a 3DS Lite.  But on the other hand...if it doesn't happen until 2013 or something then I really don't want to wait that long to play Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion.  Maybe I'll just get a used one to hold me over until the inevitable revision...

Why people think  3D Mario, Mario Kart, 2D Mario and Paper Mario (assuming this is the 4th title you speak of) is the same IP? You get very different experiences from all of them. As a DS owner only, it's been since 2006 I haven't got a 2D Mario.

That's so damn true! I'll wait for this holiday season for the redesigned version to come out, but no longer!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad I'm getting my Mario fix on the 3DS! Why do some think it's easier to put out a 3D Mario game? It's actually not when considering all the level designing and content you have to put in the 3D games since their much larger than the 2D games. That doesn't mean the 2D are weaker, that means their easier to develop when considering time management and level designing isn't as diffcult. If Nintendo were to have a 3D Mario game for Wii U that means it won't come out until 2014 at most.

I can see why Nintendo wants to develop a 2D Mario for each system since 1) 3DS doesn't have one yet and 2) Like I said it's easier and faster to develop. I don't think NSMB2 is going to be a disappoint(loved the last two games), but we don't have enough information to clarify if it will or not. I say wait until E3.

I think it will.  I think you'll see a big impact during the holiday season.  Most people who buy a 3DS will buy it with a Mario game, and most are going to choose one or the other.  From a business perspective I would have waited till the next holiday season.  From a personal experience I can't wait for some new Mario.

I'm also surprised that Mario is coming out in August.  You'd think that Nintendo would want to use it as their big holiday title.  This makes me hopeful that they're going to bring out some truly huge title for the holidays, but what franchise do they have that's bigger than 2-D Mario?  Maybe they have an amazing new IP and they don't want Mario stealing the spotlight? 

My only other thought is that the 3DS is going to be a little downplayed this holiday as Nintendo tries to put more emphasis on the Wii U.  Nintendo might try this stratergy if they don't feel very threatened by the Vita, which they likely don't.
