Forums - Gaming Discussion - Single Player Gaming is Superior to Online Gaming

Recently a lot of my gaming time has consisted of just competitive online but I decided to go back to adventure games and haven't had so much of a blast in a while. It made me think that without Single Player gaming a deep scar in the industry would occur and no form of online gaming could repair that. I also reflected on the lack of effort in campaigns of games as more investment is going into the online of that game. I overall enjoy online gaming but if it's being incorporated into a game then it sould come 2nd important to the campaign, we then may see campaigns more polished and longer.

I'd love to know your opinions on the matter.

I have to agree that most of online play does not cater to my taste, but a lot of games with local multiplayer are a real blast! Sadly, you are also right about the single player modes suffering from online-multiplayer developement

A great example in my opinion is Mario Kart Double Dash.

singleplayer is always more important than multiplayer to me.

I disagree, but I think that's mostly because I've been very underwhelmed by all the single player games I've been playing recently, whereas the multiplayer ones have been fantastic.

When I look back on games like Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and Banjo Kazooie, though, they were the most amazing and fun experiences of my life and I'm very grateful I have them. I wish... new games could give me those feelings.

Now you just made me realize how much I don't like the state of the industry compared to my own glory gaming days.

With the exception of Halo 3, Gears of War 1, and Battlefield 3 the majority of my time spent in games is in SP, so yeah obviously for me sp beats mp in importance.

They're both an integral part of the experience though.

Hardly ever play a game online so single player is superior to online games in my book. Also don't really care about FPS another reason why I think single player is more important.

Yes, to me one of the most important things it's the singleplayer, it's the essence of the game. I got nothing against online gaming though it's almost a year since i don't have xbox live, but forget that, online play it's for fun, singleplayer it's the experience, the feeling, the game itself.
